Hello,

I wanted to check in to see if Stack Ideas had released a mobile app for EasySocial + Joomla yet.

I believe this was in the works about a year ago.

Best,

Meagan
If you are referring to mobile native app, unfortunately we doesn't have implement this but based on what i know Appcarvers already implement this mobile native app for Easysocial, perhaps you can contact with Appcarvers developer and see how it goes.

a very good advice. Don't buy an app from them. It's bad, expensive and incredibly annoying. I would rather wait until stackideas maybe times finds resources to make the apps myself. After all, they managed the mobile version and it looks extremely good.

It's easier to invest the money here and it works perfectly. Unfortunately I made the mistake and bought the apps at Appcarvers. Never again!

There are also these guys here:
https://www.joomgap.com/slim-app.html
I believe Mark mentioned them before!
I know nothing about whether they are any good or not.
Be sure to click the "One off Project" button for a some what more down to earth price!

Thanks, everyone.

The main issue for our users is logging in and staying logged in on mobile. With the URL site on mobile, our users get logged out every few days.

In addition, if they registered with Facebook, then Facebook URL opens to verify and they're not logged in either.

Perhaps you could consider setting the "Remember me" option?

Hi Mark,

Even with the 'Remember me option' turned on, all of our users get logged out every few days (Joomla expiration is set to 30 days). Interestingly, when comparing Facebook URL, I was able to stay logged in 14 days+.

I've shown the app carver demo to some of our users (age 24 and below) and for some reason they prefer the idea of something simplistic / bare bones, that feels like a messaging app with limited options.

I've shown them how they can bookmark EasySocial and add icon to homescreen, but they still want something that is simplistic, has fewer options, feels like a messaging app, and they can login and forget it.

I wish EasySocial had a mobile app like the above. You guys are the best.

I believe you were working on a mobile app 2 years ago. Are you still working on that project? Could we demo that or be your first trial users and give feedback?

Best,

Meagan

Hey Meagan,

We didn't actually pursuit in the native app because we think that web apps are the way to go. Maintaining and managing native apps are time consuming

Oh I completely agree. It's my users who express challenge.

*Do you have any advice for trouble shooting why easysocial logs out users within days, while Facebook URL stays logged in?

Tested on iPhone. 'remember login' is always checked. (Joomla logout is 30 days).

hey Meagan,

Perhaps you can start a new thread regarding this issue and provide us with your site backend and FTP access so we can test further on this?

By right, if the user checked "Remember me" option before login, it should follow this setting Global Config -> System -> Session Lifetime session time what you set , so it will store this current logged in user authentication hashed data into user's device under browser cookies section.

So every time when the user open back that browser on their device, this System - Remember Me plugin will always check whether the current this user session data expired yet, if no, this user will appear logged in on the site.

look if we pay each 300$ (or more) we would get a good app inhouse and a full solution. You can hire 1 or 2 person also to your current team. I mean i would even spend 500 Bucks if it works like a charm.

Hey joy,

If it was that cheap, we could and would already hire an in-house team to work on the mobile apps. Unfortunately, hiring a full time employee to develop native mobile apps are costly and it's going to take at least 4 - 6 senior developers to work on it considering the scope of EasySocial (EasySocial is really huge and we spent ridiculous amount of hours in it already)

The business I work at, we had the same problem. Fortunately, we were able to solve this very easily.

On the app we defined the graphic elements rigidly. With the help of known APIs about JSon, we were able to import data elements and insert them into the tables.

Notifications can be received via OneSingal without any problems.

What I would like from a Stackideas app would simply be the web version in Google material design. These would be rigid graphic elements that would then import to the data elements.

At the moment Easysocial has no APIs known to me to access. Even the Appcarvers app needs a plugin to access elements.

It would really be the last piece of Stackidea's products to form a complete package.

I would like to participate in such an app, but without documentation it is unfortunately quite difficult.

By the way, you guyz rocks! Hope you'll write a blogpost again. I check every day 12 times without anything new :> you've to be realy busy.

Hi all,

I am looking for a solution too about mobile app.

I red Appcarver Forum and it seems many users are not really happy. And when I understood Appcarver was Techjoomla, I laught... and I understand.

The difference between web and mobile is it's only javascript/css/html and position:absolute for .header .nav in css. There is no php file. I saw a complete example with a weather app for IOS and Android and with Cordova. It's very interesting.

If I understood, this is a complete rewriting.

But at this time, for joomla, I don't know how to place all the files of a mobile app on my own server, close from my joomla installation.

If someone could share some interesting info/link/tuto, I am interested.

I think, it is not necessary to reproduce all functionnalities of Easysocial/Easyblog/Easydiscuss and third party components but it is very important to get a mobile app for example reply quickly for a job (in my case) or a partnership or simply to stay up to date from his own network.

ah man, sad to hear that.

Wouldn't be an option to hire someone? I bet all you customers would accept a higher price for those products. If you compare easysocial with communitybuilder or Jomsocial, they don't have any chance. Stackideas is by far something big and popular.

The Thing with the app would be the last piece for a complete solution. If a customer got a vision to buil a community, he would found a full package solution.

I mean look:

Price Jomsocial:$149
Price Stackideas (BUNDLE):$269

On my sight it could went from $269 into $400 without a problem. If you take a look about the support tickets (included in subscription) , i am realy sure, that we would all pay for it.

The Pricing for the app could be about $500 and it would be great.

I don't think many are willing to fork out $500 just for the app, even if it did, we would require many customers to get on board and only then we would be able to work on something.

This is because building native apps is not something we are familiar with. Anyhow, let us complete the GDPR compliance with PayPlans 4 and we'll see what can be done

Hello !

A Progressive Web App could be the solution... based on your Mobile Web Template.
Especially since Apple supports this now.
Is that in your plans ?

I watched this here.
And it is interesting to see the approach that for eg Microsoft are taking.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OJ24kCV-J8
Obviously Microsoft are way behind on the App front so it makes sense for them to treat any site that could be pulled into an App easily as “First Class”

Hello everybody !

SlimApp is not a PWA (Progressive Web App).
It's a native application that encapsulates a website.
It's very very expensive for an empty shell.

I understood that at Stackideas you do not want to develop a native application, as this is very time intensive and therefore financial means.
But on the other hand, I think it's important that you surf the wave of Progressive Web Apps.
And that you develop a house solution.

With the talent of your team, and your previous successes, I'm sure you'll succeed in designing a great PWA ! That will exceed our expectations as always.
This technology is recent but it's already the present and especially the future.

For games, native applications downloaded from the App Store will be needed, this can be understood.
But for a large number of use, a PWA will be the norm, especially for a Social Network whose data comes mainly from a server.

Many of us have expected you to do a native application.
We understood that there will be none.
But you did well to wait, because rather than ruining your time developing a native application without a future, you remained focused on developing your products.

And today, the technology that I think fits you exists : the Progressive Web App !
The huge advantage is that it's in your domain, that of the Web (php, javascript, etc.).

Thank you,
Philippe

It's true that it is not exactly a PWA but combined with our mobile template, it's getting there. Plus, they have service workers too.

I know! I know! We are pretty pumped up and excited too but we have to push out Komento 3.1 as well as PayPlans 4 first! By the way, I am pretty sure you guys are going to fall in love with Komento 3.1 =)))

Hope to read a new blog about the current status :> I check those daily about 20 times. Would be cool to have every (e.g. Friday) a Blog about stackideas. So that we can count on something.

Yes JomGap is an interesting solution.
But $199 a month is too expensive.
That's about the amount of an annual license for EasySocial !

The Mobile Web Template is very successful.
Turning it into a Progressive Web App could be a logical sequel.

Of course, I do not expect it to be available quickly. Everything in its time.
I only opened a debate.

Trust me.

Don't purchase anything from jomgap or appcarvars. I had bad experiences.

I would even pay each year 1000$, but it should work easy and be a benefit from the user experience. Maybe, when stackideas got more time and resources, they could build something inhouse. Amazing things are possible, just thing some years back and the envolve from scratch.

I can understand that you feel under pressure because we have new expectations all the time. I am the first to ask you this or that

But you are entitled to the error ! Because you correct them with the following updates.
It's great to say, that your softwares (and our sites consequently) will be better and better, and that it can only go in this direction.

Thank you for listening to us
