I have been using EasySocial for years and have never use the groups functionality because we have also been using EasyDiscuss and have had discussions there that seem to work well. But, I am assuming that in a group many different discussions could be created. I am wondering if a comparison between discussions and groups exists anywhere.

I am thinking to convince some people to move from the discussion forum to create groups instead.

Can you let me know the advantages?

Thanks, Sean
Hi Sean,

First off, I would say EasyDiscuss and EasySocial are different extensions. Therefore, the layout/UI will be the most apparent change if you do move your users to EasySocial.

I would say the advantage of using ES groups is that you can utilize other apps in groups like 'files', 'videos', 'photos' etc in addition to the discussion app which is already available in groups.

But, we do have another Group EasyDiscuss app which integrates with EasySocial groups. This app allows group members to create discussions belonging to the group in EasyDiscuss which would allow group members to view it.

Also, non-logged in users would not be able to participate(create/reply) to discussions in EasySocial, but in EasyDiscuss they can.

Looks like I will need this app if I can get a group started. It is certainly what I could use.

I am assuming this might replace the EasySocial app that is named Discussions? or would I then use both apps?

And, it appears this is an extra expense that I would purchase and it not included in the Pro bundle?

Thanks, Sean

Actually it really depend on what is your current requirement, if you would like to link your discussion or you would like to remain all those feature what Easydiscuss has, then you can just use Group Discuss app in Easysocial, so those discussion who created in the group, it will associated with Easydiscuss.

I believe you will noticed that all our apps doesn't need to renew, as long as you purchased it first time, you can update this app every time. The reason why it was not included in EasySocial as a whole because this feature is not require by everyone, therefore this feature was sold separately, otherwise there will be hike in prices for EasySocial plans as well.

Thanks for understanding.

There is one thing that I am not sure I like which is that all of the discussions created via the EasySocial Group end up not being visible in the "Recent Discussions" area of EasyDiscuss.

Hey Sean,

Yes the discussions from groups are separated from the normal discussions and this is mostly due to the fact that ES groups themselves have varying privacy behaviors.

Aha. I figured this must be one of those "is this a bug or a feature" type of situations.

Thanks for the explanation.
