Hi,

Is there a way to automate group and event permalinks rather than making users create their own?

Cheers
Hi,

You can actually set the field to be "not required", and as such user won't have to fill it up, and a system generated one will be used instead.

Currently the permalink field doesn't auto generate by itself and we will see if we can include this in the future.

Thanks,

So if i set it as not required, then hide it from the user the system will create one for us?

Sounds good

Hi,

Yup. Technically the system will just generate 1 directly from the title.

How do you set it as not required? I disabled the Event - Permalink application in the theme but that didn't seem to do anything.

Hello Norske,

You can actually configure the behavior of the field in the event category. Click on the event category, then click on the "Custom Fields" tab. Then, click on the permalink field and you should see the options available

Thanks! That worked.
I would vote too for an option to just remove this field. My users have NO IDEA what it means.

Motion seconded. I too have been getting questions from users who have no idea what a permalink is and why they would be seeing it. I hope someday we can suppress this as a global setting instead of having to go category by category. Glad I found this thread. Keep up the great work!

Hello Jim,

You could actually just unpublish this custom field altogether under the Applications section

Thanks for the tip, Mark. I already did it the other way and it was really not a big deal.

+1 to hide.
While creating custom aliases may seem 'cool' to those who know what they're for, none of my clients or their users have any idea what they're for. It simply stops them registering sometimes, other times they just put fill it with gobbledegook.

As the functionality is already there to automate this, I guess there is nothing for you guys to do. Thanks for the tip!

Hi There!

I wonder if you this has been fixed or implemented in the upcoming version 2.1.x? Does permalink auto generate from the title? I think Joomla has a method for that since that's how alias work.

Thanks,

Jackson

Hi Jackson,
This functionality is inherent, its just down to how you configure the fields.

By not showing these in your form, they get auto filled by Easysocial.

Hi Gary,

I see, I never had the chance to test it out but I just made it Not Required. So it does auto create just like alias.

Anyways, thanks for clarifying that feature.
