Hi there,

It might be a silly question but I am having difficulty installing the beta. At the moment I am running 1.1.6. The instructions tell me to install the package via Extension Manager. However, when I try to do that (after about 5 minute wait) the screen simply refreshes and all of the uploading is lost. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong but would appreciate a detailed answer if I am not at the right track.

Thank you,
David.
I have the same issue..

STEPS TO INSTALL BETA

As Mark stated:

Installation Procedure
Since beta releases are not stored on our system, you will need to download the full package which should be around 10 - 15mb.

NOTE: THIS IS PROBABLY THE ISSUE FOR SOME: You need to ensure that your php.ini allows max_upload_filesize of at least 15mb or more. I set mine to 18MB. You may need to add this php.ini file to your site server. Check with your hosting provider.

PHP has, by default, a limit set to 10 MB (megabytes) for uploading through PHP scripts on our servers. If you need to have a higher limit you can usually just change that through the php.ini file.

NOTE! Find the php.ini file in you site directory. Open the php.ini file and make sure you add or change the following: upload_max_filesize = 16M. You might have to create this php.ini file or ask your server provider to change it for you. The package file will not upload unless the php.ini has this set properly to the proper limit: upload_max_filesize = 16M.

You might as well add this too to your php.ini file: post_max_size = 16M.

Install it via Extensions Manager
Proceed with the installation.
On the step where it requires you to choose between Network and Directory, you need to select Directory and choose com_easysocial_1.2.0.zip <------ This is the stage some people miss - This is in the 3rd step of the normal installation process. This is where you will select the 2nd method or Install via Directory so you can install the BETA Package.
Proceed with the installation and you are good to go!

1. Download the Beta package from the http://stackideas.com/issues/1319
2. Go to the Extensions Manager and choose Upload Package file. Extension package file: Choose file and upload this file: com_easysocial_1.2.0_full_pro
3. The package file takes time to upload so be patient. You should see the spinning cursor and the progress in % in the browser below.
Once the file has uploaded, proceed with the normal installation method, and look for STEP 3.
4. Step through STEP 1 and STEP 2 as normally in the process. Then when you get to STEP 3, you will choose INSTALL VIA DIRECTORY instead of Network. This is how you install via Directory which is required by the beta.
5. CHOOSE Installation via Directory. You have to also make sure to select the package to install, so use the Select package drop-down menu.
6. Select the BETA package: in the dropdown menu selector, select this package: com_easysocial_1.2.0_component_pro.zip
7. Click NEXT STEP. Proceed through the installation.

You should see the package proceed with the installation through the next few steps to the end.

You can also upload the file to your /tmp directory and install it via a url. This worked quite nicely and did not require any php.ini edits. But then again I edited my php.ini file years ago to have a very high limit.

Robert,

Try adding this to you php.ini file. You might as well add this too to your php.ini file: post_max_size = 16M.

You might have to get the SI Support team to help you out.

I'm at a loss to figure out why this would happen unless your max execution time is set to low.

Have you tried the install from the url method? Uploading the beta straight up wasn't working for me either. This might avoid the max limit upload issue.

I'm getting this error in step 4 of the installation: The MD5 hash of the downloaded file does not match. Please contact our support team to look into this.

Hi there,

Thanks for all of the comments. Still at a loss here. I don't know how to change the php upload levels and not sure even able to do so. I have included my details so maybe someone in support can just do it for me (would much appreciate it!).

Thanks.

I see there is some new styling to the main template on the profile, but the template that Mark showed us upon preview looked really cool! Is this planned for a later version of EasySocial? When swapping between themes I don't notice a difference.

Remember all - any issues with the Beta should get reported here: http://stackideas.com/issues

Presumably that includes install problems and anything about the Beta that's not what we're expecting - All those things might be unintended issues with the beta build.... (I'm sure hoping for that new template styling as per screenshot too!)

@Andy: The issues I've reported today needed screen shots to give the stacked team a better idea of exactly what I meant with certain issues. If the Issues section allowed screen shots I probably would have used that area. So from my perspective it depends on the context of the situation. I've reported to the issues area in the past.

Andy,

Just in case you didn't see my added post about the new Frosty template not showing, the new template is in beta 1, and it works, but to get it to work you have to also set the Profile type to show the new Frosty template.

Thanks Randall! I missed that little detail and was wondering why swapping the template didn't swap it. Glad to see the new theme.

Hi David and guys,

There are a few keys to look out for:

max_execution_time (120)

post_max_size (32M)

upload_max_filesize (32M)

For David's case, the upload_max_filesize is set to 50M, which is fine, but the max_execution_time is 30, which I am afraid might be too low to perform certain steps in the installation.

post_max_size is set to 10M, in which I would suggest your host to slightly increase this value as well.

Hi David,

On a side note, do add your site domain in stackideas.com/dashboard under the EasySocial license.

Hi Jason,

I'm sorry, but that this mean you have installed the beta on my site or do I have to do something else? I'm not sure I will be able to (newbie!)

Hi,

No I didn't perform the installation on your site.

Also, using the package downloaded from the issues platform, please ensure that you are selecting "Install via directory" in the EasySocial installation page rather than "Install via internet"

Hi Jason,

Like I said, I am not able to install it. Would you be so kind as to either put the right setting on my site so I can install the beta, or install it yourself?

p.s. I added the domain to the dashboard

As mentioned to Andy above, to get the new Frosty theme to show, myou have to also set each Profile Type to show the Frosty theme instead f Wireframe.

Go to Dashboard - Profile - Select each profile type and set the theme to use Frosty. Save and the Frosty theme will show.

Hi David,

Unfortunately those settings needs to be changed on your hosting side.

As mentioned the alternative way is to upload the package file to your server first, and then perform the installation through install from direction method.

Also, I can't seem to log in to your FTP to upload the package as well. Please advise.

Hi,

I've successfully installed ES beta on your site.

Please take note that we will not be assisting with Beta installation in the future as you should actually contact your hosting provider in regarding to the parameters mentioned above.

Hi David,

Try this instead for install by directory:

1. If your site is called abc, add a new folder called (for example, use whatever you want) socialtmp. The path will be ...abc/socialtmp.
2.Upload the easysocial package file to the socialtmp folder/directory (go in via cpanel to file manager and upload from there or use filezilla from your computer)
3. Go to the socialtmp folder/directory and extract the easysocial package file.
4. Go to extension manager and select Install via Directory, choosing abc/socialtmp as the directory to install from.
5. After a few seconds the EasySocial step by step launcher will appear.
6. Proceed and install.

Hi David,

Please either try Richard's advise, or contact your hosting provider in regards to the parameter mentioned above.

Contacting your hosting provider is the better way to go because if not, you will keep coming back to the same issue all over again the in the future.
