It appears I am having almost the same issue that I had with updating EasyBlog.

https://stackideas.com/forums/after-update-easyblog-dashboard-not-correct

For some reason, it is stuck on the backend and unable to click on anything within EasyDiscuss.

Not sure why these two updates are causing issues or why all of the components didn't upload. Even tried to re-install, but that didn't do the trick either:(

As before, if you wouldn't mind letting me the know the steps that would be great.
As there is another site with the same issue, I will need to implement the same procedure.

It seems that i cannot access your backend as currently, there are no access credentials included on your site details.

I placed the site credentials on my profile.
In a case you are not able to obtain, I have edited the initial and placed them there as well.

Would it be possible to contact Muhammad Fadhli, please?
He was just in the backend two days ago.
Nothing has changed as of yet and he even has the .pem key that you will need to enter the backend.

Hi there,

It seems that your installations is not working correctly as those folders on your site is not writable as you can see here http://take.ms/vM1By. You need to make them all writable in order for those installations to be working as it should. Once you have done that, try to register them again.

Oddly, my permissions are always set properly.
Not quite certain how that happened, but I assure you this was all writable when I installed EasyDiscuss.

Nonetheless, I went ahead and re-did the permissions.
Then attempted to re-install Easydiscuss with no luck

The main issue is, we are not able to click on settings or posts.
The rest seems to work.
Although it continues to spin determining whether or not an update is needed in the dashboard view.

Hi there,

Yes it is sir. Caused of those issues are most likely, during installations, it cannot override old files and replace correct files,scripts and etc to your site. It is required for you to reinstall them again, in order for your Easydiscuss to fetch it correct version and it latest files/folders/scripts and etc.

Please advice.

I don't understand?

Are you telling me that I need to uninstall EasyDiscuss, than re-install or just install the update?
If it is just to install update, I did that..

And we are still having issue..

I have tried to install both the launcher and full neither has fixed the problem.
Even after changing permissions.

Hi there,

I am not sure why when i tried to install them on your site, it always kept redirected me to the components again. Maybe you can try to install them again and see how it goes. As i have made some modifications on your site, as it might got issues with some settings you enabled on your previous installations. It is working as it should now, but not fully working.

Maybe there are ways, for me to install on your site, it would be best if you can provide us with steps on how to do it.

Not sure what you mean by installing on the site?
Seems like it's not working; as the content that is linked to EasyDiscuss is showing an error on the front-end.

Do whatever you must; so we can get this site back to 100%, please.

By the way, is there anyway to export the settings before we do a clean install?
As I hate to have to run through all of the settings to get them the way they were:(

Hi there,

Actually, you easydiscuss is working fine now, but it does not fetch correct versioning as your API(license) is not injected into you site. Currently, in order to solve this issues, you need to re-isntall them again. I have tried to reisntall them, bu it kept redirected me to it components once i tried to install as you can see here http://take.ms/wjKwM

I am no sure currently, how to install them on your site, as i have turn off everything and seems that it kept redirected me same way.

Maybe you can provide us with some way on how to install them on your site. Please advice.

Hi there,

After checking on your site, it seems that we dont have the right permission to made any changes on your temp folder, and that why you are able to install them, but on the other side, mine is not working. Maybe you can check them with your web hosting service provider regarding this, whether they have provided correct permission or not to all user group for your site.

Right now, i am using stackideas(username), and this user somehow cannot make changes on the site, and suspected that, i am not given full permission to make any changes on your site.

By the way, i somehow manage to get them installed on your site. It should works as it should now. Please give it a check and see how it goes.

When you go into forums page and click on one of the two articles it brings up the error.

Yet, they were set as only EasyDiscuss commenting.


The naming convention within settings has a few that are stating the long name; such as:

I've checked in your site, it seems like you have disable this "content - Easydiscuss" plugin, I already help you enabled back it, it should render the reply form on Easyblog page.

What my colleague mean is your webserver user permission, let me explain more details regarding how our installation work :

1. Once you upload installer from your backend installer page, our PHP script will tell your webserver user to create a temporary new file called 'easydiscuss.installation' into this directory folder rootFolder/tmp/..

2. Then click "proceed the installation" button, in this moment our PHP script will check whether this file 'easydiscuss.installation' exist or not from your directory folder rootFolder/tmp/.. , if exist, it will redirect to installation, but if not exist, it will always return back to Easydiscuss dashboard from backend

So now the issue is, it look like your webserver user doesn't have correct permission to create a new file into rootFolder/tmp/.., this is something you have to consult with your webhosting provider to re-check again whether setup correctly with your webserver user permission.

Hope my explanation will clear what is your current issue now.

Thank you, I think I understand and appreciate all of the hard work in getting this backup and running.

From what I understand regarding the last; the permissions set and user is incorrect?
I did notice that there was a new "tmp" folder created and the old "tmp" folder still in htdocs.

I just checked it looks like the new "tmp" folder had permissions of 755.
Changed it to 775, assuming that is what you meant.

Owner/group are set correctly from what I can see.

Also, when you click with the forums named, "engage" .
The easyblogs that are attached under physical state something a little strange..
- see attached.

I am the handler for the hosting, so if there is something not set right please let me know.
As of now I have it open for the entire site at the following;
f -exec chmod 644
d -exec chmod 775

hoping these settings will suffice.

Regarding with your new issue, can I have the permission to remove your existing post (The Importance of Soaking Beans) from Easydiscuss ? Because by right it shouldn't retrieve that image over to Easydiscuss.

Unless you switch to use Joomla editor from Easyblog composer.

Yes, I remember previously you did setup correctly without any installation issue.

Perhaps you can consider to change your webserver group(daemon) to owner(bitnami) then restart your server.

Regarding with your second issue :
I already removed your existing discussion then it re-import again, it should import correctly now.

The reason for this is safety.
For security reasons, apache (daemon) is not allowed to modify the configuration file within Joomla..

Regarding with your second issue :

Quick question, is there a way to remove the email address within EasyDiscuss?

Also, is there any chance we will soon have the option of exporting settings within EasyDiscuss; similar to EasySocial?
Therefore, we won't lose all of our settings in situations like this

Perhaps you can start a new thread for those different question so it will help us easier to manage your issue.

By the way, regarding with your installation issue, we already found out what is the reason why you hitting this issue.

It seems like you have enabled FTP setting from your backend global configuration setting, which mean that this user "bitnamiftp" doesn't have permission to create a file into your server.

Once i turn off this setting from backend, all the installation work perfectly fine now.
