I am looking for tips on how I can better optimize my EasyDiscuss forum. I have been contacted by my server company because recent increased activity on my forum has put a strain on my server's CPU. They claim the majority of the CPU usage is due to the EasyDiscuss add-on to my website. I have added an optimization plug-in to my Joomla website that helps the site's optimization/speed/CPU usage overall, but it doesn't work on the EasyDiscuss section of the site. I am wondering if there is some way to make EasyDiscuss work faster and more efficiently without straining the server's energy? Are there some settings I should be turning on or off? Is there a few tips that you might be able to share with me so that EasyDiscuss will work even better? I'm open to all ideas! Thanks!
Hello Lawrence,

To be really honest with you, what they have told you is pretty vague and I really cannot give you an exact answer as to where the bottlenecks are. Would it be possible that you contact them and ask them for the logs that pinpoints the CPU usage issue to EasyDiscuss?

What they have showed me was the list of pages and sub-domains on my website that are the largest drains on the server's CPU power. By far the #1 drain is the EasyDiscuss program and page. (There is no #2 even close to #1.) So what I am looking for are tips on how to better optimize the EasyDiscuss program. I am not looking for information specific for my website, as this is a general EasyDiscuss issue. What I am looking for is ways to optimize the EasyDiscuss module.

In general, are there ways to make it load up faster and use less of the server's resources? Are there ways (for examples) to combine or minimize CSS files or javascript? I simply want to know if StackIdeas has ways/tricks/tips to make EasyDiscuss work more efficiently.

Hello Lawrence,

EasyDiscuss is actually already optimized so I am not really sure how else to optimize it if I don't know where the bottlenecks are. I need to know what's causing the page to drain that much of CPU. We are running EasyDiscuss on our own site here and it can handle these huge data without any issues at all

Hi Lawernce

I just wanted to come with my input on your issue here.
I run EasyDiscuss on a shared server with Rochen hosting and must say in all the years I have done this, not once have I ever gotten that message as you get from your web host.

My suggestion is to try and disable all plugins, modules and or components so you only run EasyDiscuss and then see how much of the CPU it takes and see if that helps you in anyway. On other thing you can try is this component here from Rockettheme which I find very handy.

If all fails and it still take loads of CPU. Perhaps your host are having some bad hardware at their end, any maybe is time for you to find better host

Thank you RR. Unfortunately, that RocketTheme program (RokBooster) disables my entire website, making it so only the background color can be seen. Everything else disappears. The JCH Optimize program, which is similar, seems to work better for me. I was just hoping there was some way to specifically speed up or minimize the forum, which is very "heavy" to the server.

Running RokBooster and JCH Optimize uses a lot of resources incl. CPU and often slow down the site. I recommend not using any plugins to speed things up. If you want to speed things up you gotta do it server side.
