The EasyDiscuss installation on my site deaconworld.net is apparently no longer installed. The basic site structure is intact. Items that were posted since the site opened at the end of December are there. The forums are all listed properly. All of the customizations and set-up are intact. However, it's not possible to post or create documents. There is no "save" function - just submit. When you click on submit, nothing happens.

When I go into site administration, into eadsydiscuss, and then into settings, I see the screen shown in file [1].

It seems pretty apparent that, for some reason, the software is no longer installed. The fact that the structure of the site is intact confuses me.

I do not want to just re-install easydiscuss without checking with you.

1) Do you have any idea why I am getting this 're-install' screen? I don't want to try and re-install only to discover that the new installation will suffer from the same problem.

2) If easydiscuss is reinstalled, will all of the work spent on customizing the site, all of the posts and documents be deleted?
The site backup on my ISP from Sunday night was restored earlier today. It didn't have any effect on this problem.

Thank you for any help and/or advice you can offer

Mark
Hey Mark,

It most likely when you perform an update Easydiscuss in your site, that installation still not install complete yet, so it will keep show this installation screen when you access any Easydiscuss page from backend.

2) If easydiscuss is reinstalled, will all of the work spent on customizing the site, all of the posts and documents be deleted?

I would like to clarify this when you perform reinstall Easydiscuss from your backend, it will not affect with your existing discussion data from your database, it will just copy all those latest file from the installer then replace into the Easydiscuss core file.

If you have do some customisation file into your Easydiscuss core file, whatever you install/update from your Joomla backend, it will override your customisation file if those file is under Easydiscuss core file.

I'm not very knowledgeable about tech stuff. This is the part of your response I don't understand:

[I don't know what you mean when you say 'reinstall from your backend'. What is a 'backend?]

[I have no idea what a core file is. When you speak of the 'Joomla backend' is that the same 'backend' you mentioned above? The 'customizations' I referred to are things like the way the forums display, how bread-crumbs are set, icons used for the forums. The order the forums appear. Will I have to go back and build the site from the very beginning?

I am sorry for my explanation not very well.

What my meaning of "reinstall from your backend" is the way you download the launcher or full installer from your user dashboard https://stackideas.com/dashboard here , then upload through your Joomla backend office installer page (screenshot : http://take.ms/yQfCe ), it will not affect with your existing discussion data from your database.

Yes, that is correct, "backend" = "Joomla backend".

What my meaning of "Easydiscuss Core file" is as long as you modify those file which located at following file location, it will get override with your changes from your customisation work.
- JoomlaRootFolder/administrator/components/com_easydiscuss/..
- JoomlaRootFolder/components/com_easydiscuss/..
- JoomlaRootFolder/media/com_easydiscuss/..

If you referring this without modify anything from the Easydiscuss PHP file, it will not affected with your existing configuration how you set it before.

Hope this explanation will help.

Note : Before you perform any update you have to backup your site first, in case any happen occur.
