1. I prefer the forum layout because it's easier to navigate and filter posts
2. Most posts may go unanswered or unresolved since replies are not needed. The same for post types. None may apply since they may just be comments.

Hi,

In our opinion, for EasyDiscuss to really compete with other big forums like vBulleting, SMF, phpBB and others, it lacks several very basic features, and it lacks the ability to support really big forums.

We have started writing a list of features that we would like to see, and our forum (more than 10.000.000 posts) is a good candidate to test ED.

Should we posts our suggestions here, or should we contact you directly?

We are going to be redefining EasyDiscuss 5 from the ground up and therefore we appreciate to get as much feed back as we can here. EasyDiscuss 5 will be a breaking change and we are not going to go with the conventional forums behavior.

i hope you nail it, but it's quite a big statement to say that you'll do something ground breaking.

Currently, i lacks very basic features that you see even on new forum software:

Out the top of my head:

1. A user that's reading a thread, he cannot go to FIRST unread reply when he comes back, so he can continue from where he left
2. Cannot go to a thread's last post from the index view, or anywhere actually.
3. Cannot get a list of updated threads that a user can joined in or watching
4. ED doesnt have link to a specific post (only topic)
5. Subscriptions via email, it sends one email for each reply. Imagine 1000 subscribers and 1000 replies. A real mess with emails
6. Merge function is weak.
7. Split function is not complete
8. Does not display different icons for users for a. updated topics b. topics that they have participated and have replies c. topics that are hot! (a number of replies and up)

That's just out of the top of my head. will be sending more details.

Personally, I stopped using EasyDiscuss, because I realized that EasySocial was more suitable for my users.

However I see more and more forums that were on phpbb or IPB Forum switch to Discourse.org
The interface is very well designed, including on mobile.

I think Discourse.org is a model to follow.

Sorry for not exactly answering your questions above but reading the already given answers your questions are not really our priority needs...
1.
Please think multilingual: tags, post types, etc.
2.
Also add the possibility of mass actions like:
- copy/duplicate categories
- mass assign / copy ACLs to (selected) categories
3.
Drag and drop will make ordering much easier when there are many categories
4.
- "Lighter" front-end desgin, too many texts and text boxes makes page design heavy and not pleasant to look at (even not willing to read and leave the page) !!
- Same as above for moderation actions
Make use of icons and tooltips as often as possible
5.
Same point of view as n00bster and Philippe

Top features used:
- Photo/video sharing are the main actions to illustrate story telling or Q&A
- photo slidershow/slider (with thumbs gallery)
- before / after photos
- Quote / partial quote,

Currently for 'New Question' moderation, it is global. Can you add it under Categories setting?

So at the front end, moderators for category can have a right to approve/disapprove post within their own category.
