We have set the application 'Discuss' with all the 'Stream' options on and also set them all on in the EasyDiscuss integrations settings under 'Activity Stream', yet nothing is appearing in the stream when things happen in EasyDiscuss?
Hi Itamar,

May I know which EasyDiscuss action in particular is not showing on the stream?

All of them! As an examples, if someone posts a question in EasyDiscuss, any replies or comments to that post don't appear in the news stream for the user that created the question.

Also in testing I found that when the user logs back in and goes to the discussion page, it's not showing a notification icon there that there is a reply.

I ran these tests on our test site at https://faenet.punya.co.uk (same logins etc)

Hey Itamar,

The reason the discussion owner does not see the stream items is because of the filter 'Me and Friends'(http://take.ms/yPR0J).

Whenever a user that is not a friend of the owner replies, the stream item is indeed created but it will not show to the discussion owner when the owner filters the stream to only show 'Me and Friends' stream items.

To view stream items created by non-friend users, the owner has to view the 'Everyone' filter, which is currently disabled on your site.
Also in testing I found that when the user logs back in and goes to the discussion page, it's not showing a notification icon there that there is a reply.
If you enter that discussion page, the notification will be considered 'read', but it will still be in the notification list(http://take.ms/dNjJU).

Okay this causes an problem then as we don't allow the "Everyone" filter on our site. It would seem logical that if someone posted a reply to something you wrote, you would see that even if not friends with them. Otherwise that means you have to friend all the support team plus anyone else that may take part in your discussion. This seems bad "integration" between the two products? I guess what is needed is the ability to have the "Everyone" filter active for anything created by EasyBlog and EasyDiscuss, but not by EasySocial.

For the Discussion page, the user just went to the Front page layout of EasyDiscuss and didn't actually click anything (such as the discussion they created) so I don't really understand why it doesn't show a notification? Checking as per your image, it did partly show in that it showed someone had replied but not that there was also a comment.

Hey Itamar,

The main purpose of the 'Me and Friends' filter is to show stream items created by the user themselves and friends. Showing stream items from created by other non-friend users basically defeats this purpose.
It would seem logical that if someone posted a reply to something you wrote, you would see that even if not friends with them
Currently I believe system notifications in EasySocial will notify the discussion owner as well, provided the integration is enabled. Perhaps you create a feature request for this to suggest a better way to integrate this with the 'Everyone' filter disabled.

I have tested comments and it appears to be generate correctly as well(http://take.ms/mevD2).

So I re-checked and yes, they do get a notification, I think it was to do with how I logged in and out last time. That said they only see the notification when they directly go to the EasyDiscuss front page - no notification shows up in EasySocial stream and as far as I'm aware we have turned all the options on.

Also they don't see the fact that someone commented even if they go and select to show all notifications - when the test user logged in and went to the EasyDiscuss page the only notification showing was as in img1.png and when they went to show all then it showed as in img2.png, but someone had added a comment to the post (see img3.png)

Hey Itamar,

By 'system notification', I was not referring to the stream but this(http://take.ms/XvSPk).

For comments, in your screenshot, it appears you are commenting on a reply. If that's the case, only the reply owner will receive the notification, if the reply owner is different than the comment owner.

The discussion owner will receive the notification only when the comment is made under the question itself: http://take.ms/1XOMm

Is there a way to make it so that when a user creates a new post in EasyDiscuss, it appears in the news stream of the site administrators?

Hey Itamar,

Not really sure what you mean here. Are you referring to the site admin's profile page timeline(http://take.ms/G77HJ)? If that's the case, it's not possible.

On the other hand, site admins should be able to view all user's discussion stream items in the dashboard's app filter(http://take.ms/iPzVP).

If I select that filter then yes, I do see the EasyDiscuss post, however the default view doesn't show me that post when, I assume, the default view should be to show me all news items?

Image01.png shows what I see on the test site when I first log in. The top entry shows a date of 1 day ago. Yet when I select to filter to see only discussions, then I get Image02.png which shows the post from 5 minutes ago. Surely by default that post 5 minutes ago should have been at the top of my news feed when I logged in?

Hey Itamar,

The 'Me and Friends' filter will only show stream items created by the viewer and his/her friends, which is most probably why you don't see it in that filter.

The app filter shows stream items from all users as long as it's related to the app.

Okay, I understand. That means the answer to my question then is 'no' i.e. there is no way for site admins to see new discussions unless they are a friend with the person that posted it. If there was a way to allow who can turn on the Everyone filter via ACL then I guess that would be one solution, but I don't think you support that?

Hey Itamar,

Yes there's no ACL that can achieve this, but if you really want to only allow super user to view the everyone filter, you can try to template override this file to add the respective checking under the everyone filter.

Thanks I may try that. I have to say it really feels like EasyDiscuss isn't very well integrated into EasySocial. As an example, a user that I am not friends with posted a question and then when I assigned myself as Moderator for it and also I answered the question, when they then replied to my answer and marked it as resolved, nothing showed up for me in the standard view in EasySocial. Even though I am not friends with that user, surely them replying to what I wrote and also marking as resolved when I am moderator warrants a mention in the EasySocial news feed for me?

Alright.

Those stream item are created and is visible under EasySocial's 'Everyone' and 'App filter' news feed, just not under the 'Me and friends' filter.

Since your site admins want to view the 'everyone' filter to see the discussion stream items, I have already provided an alternative to edit the dashboard theme file.

I'm still not sure things are working as they should - I logged in as a test user (rather than a system admin) and when I select the Discussions filter it just shows 'No items associated with this hashtag'?

The app filters are enforced to only show stream items from your friends only. In the next release, we have added a settings for you to choose in the back end for the behavior of app filters.

Ah okay, thanks for the clarification - I was getting a bit confused as some of the previous responses seem to conflict with each other and what I was finding. Hope it all is easier to configure soon

You're most welcome Itamar. The app filter will allow non-friends stream item viewing in the next release.

Thanks, I got a bit confused by the previous post here where it was stated

The 'Me and Friends' filter will only show stream items created by the viewer and his/her friends, which is most probably why you don't see it in that filter.

The app filter shows stream items from all users as long as it's related to the app.

Sorry about that Itamar. I missed out the part where the app filter statement(shows from all users) applies to super users as the viewer only.

For normal users, they are only able to see the stream items from friends in the app filter.

Yes that's why I got confused as it did work as you said initially but only because I was logged in as a super user I look forward to the update.
