Hello,

The way EB handles images is absolutely not inappropriate!
See example:
Orignal Image : 1248 x 1248 238kB
EB thumb 128x128 : 11.21 kB
EB medium 640x640 : 232.42 kB
EB large 960x960 : 494.55 kB
EB amp 1200x1200 : 723.04 kB
EB ??? 960x960 : 494.55 kB

From 1 original file of 238 kB we end up with 5 files and a storage of 1955,77 kB !!

Is this on purpose to sell us your Image Optimization Service ???

That is not acceptable !!
Hello,

The image variation sizes in EasyBlog are created to help speed up rendering in parts of EasyBlog. For instance, some of the views like the AMP view requires a specific image size and that is why we need to generate these sizes. Having said that, I believe some of the sizes are pretty redundant right now (as EasyBlog was invented almost a decade ago) and they will be phased out in EasyBlog 6.0

Apart from that, EasyBlog 6.0 will incorporate the same image resizing mechanism and that will help greatly reduce some of the pitfalls from the existing image library in EasyBlog.

The image optimizer service is completely optional and was created to help users to optimize image files and it is not a mean for us to force users to purchase this service.

Thank you Mark,

I like your answer and your explanations.
I am looking forward to the new EB6, I guess it will be released begining 2022, wait and see...

Server disk space becomes very very expensive and there are situations when for specific reasons you do not want to use a service like S3.

Your Image Optimizer Service is a very interesting service, unfortunatly its pricing is crazy.

I do not have any exact dates for EasyBlog 6 but it will definitely be in 2021 unless there is another pandemic :\

As for the pricing of these services, I can't speak for others but this is based on factoring our costs as well as the level of support that we provide.

I dont know how future solution(s) for creating .svg file would solve this problem as now we have the webP converter systems and wouldnt it be possible to convert uploaded files ie jpgs gif whatever to .svg files too and use that one only and automatically/magically delete that original uploaded one and keep only the .svg one to use everwhere?

just thinking loud

Hm, I am not sure if SVG is going to solve these issues. EasyBlog 6 will also support webp images so you could upload webp instead.
