Hi,

Easyblog is not posting all of a message that it receives via email. It is randomly cutting off the messages after one, or a few, sentences.

Here is an example. There should have been several paragraphs of text with this posting

Working cooperatively with the National Park Service⒠s Death Valley National Park (DEVA), the Great Basin Institute is recruiting two Archaeological Technicians to join our program and assist DEVA archaeology staff with archaeological field work and data processing. Data processing duties include updating of databases and filling out site forms in support of SHPO and NHPA reporting requirements. Data processing will also include converting legacy data to digital formats, entering data into GIS, and organizing survey reports and site records within an existing data management framework.

Field work includes surveying for and documenting cultural resources. Candidates will be trained to conduct field work with a high degree of independence- including planning survey strategies and managing projects. Completing archaeological surveys in the southwest requires the physical endurance to walk over a variety of terrains and in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat. Overnight camping for several days at a time in remote areas may be required.

 Compensation:
o Rate of pay: $15.50
o Medical and dental benefits
o Field per diem while camping

 Timeline:
o October 3, 2016 to March 29, 2017
o Full time, 40+ hours per week with some weekend work required

Location:
o Death Valley National Park is located in Nevada and California and boasts some of the hottest and driest climates, and lowest elevation in North America. A superlative desert of streaming sand dunes, snow-capped mountains, multicolored rock layers, water-fluted canyons and 3 million acres of wilderness. Home to the Timbisha Shoshone people and to plants and animals unique to the harshest desert.
o Shared housing in the park may be available (dorm style accommodations with shared bedroom/no pets), otherwise the closest available accommodations are in Pahrump or Beatty, Nevada (both approximately 1 hour away).

Qualifications:
Required:
o Educational and field experiences related to archaeology;
o Experience conducting research;
o Ability to perform data management tasks with attention to detail;
o Experience conducting field surveys and ability to recognize and record cultural resources;
o Ability to read and interpret topographical maps and navigate using a compass;
o Experience operating hand-held GPS equipment for navigation and electronic field data collection;
o Ability to work in harsh and rapidly changing environments, camp in the backcountry for consecutive days, work in all types of weather conditions, traverse uneven terrain, and be in overall good physical condition;
o Ability to work productively and cooperatively as part of a team to accomplish mutual goals and communicate effectively with a diverse public;
o Possess a valid, state-issued driver⒠s license and clean driving record; and

Helpful but not required:
o Experience managing records;

http://www.ShovelBums.org/ - Your Adventure in Archaeology Starts Here! 16,500+ of your friends can't be wrong.

The most important aspect of this list is that it is for one purpose only: Announcing jobs/non paying volunteer postings in the international CRM and Academia field at all levels; Field Tech, Professors, SHPO's, etc...

Caveat Emptor though my friends. Not all jobs pay the same, nor is the treatment of employees the same - as the companies are checking your references, you should also check them out - make sure they pay fair wages, treat their employees professionally, and do quality work. If you have at least a BA you deserve fair remuneration, so ask for it. In turn you provide your employer with excellent service. You ARE a trained professional, NOT a "bum". The name ShovelBums came from a joke my mom made. And ShovelBums is not pejorative when used between peers, it is a right of passage any modern archaeologist worth their salt has to work in at some point to be well rounded.

Act professional and expect to be treated like one.

ShovelBums hiring rule #1. Always call 2-3 references before taking on a crew member!

ShovelBums rule #2 - If you have found a job through ShovelBums, you owe me a beer. If our paths don't cross, you can use the link on ShovelBums to buy me one ;-)

Best,

Hello Robert,

I believe, that the issue is because your e-mails are not UTF-8 encoded. Look at the text that you have posted, it contains garbled characters, http://take.ms/fHd4p

If you look at the imported blog post, it stops just there.

They need to make sure that their e-mails are using UTF-8 format. There is no proper way to convert non utf-8 to utf-8 because as the email is being processed, the characters are already garbled up
