I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is actually a public day off for us here. If you are posting from the back end, the URL has to be non SEF because SH404 does not translate urls.

We can't use Joomla's routing either to translate the url because SH404 would return a 404 when you click on your post on Facebook. The only viable solution is to generate a non sef url and when the user clicks on the url on Facebook, SH404 will redirect the non sef url to a proper sef url. (This was what I was told by the SH404 guys).
