Why the current installation under http://www.mionab.com.au with api 8d0c0172521b8695d1df56d57da09da1 does not update automatically?
Can you please tell me what is wrong?
Thanks
Nothing is wrong. The api is there. All i cope is a message that ask me to check my API. Went to the client area copy and paste the API Key but no effect whatsoever

hey fabrizio,
are you perhaps on a different release branch, for example 3.8 or below? in this case the auto-updater doesn't work and to update to the latest 3.9.x version you need to manually install the latest package.
in general the auto-updater only works within the same major number, so when you're on 3.9.x you can always use it to get the latest version as long as the latest version is 3.9.x.x - when it's 4.x then again it won't work.
hope that helps

Hello,

Please go to backend -> EasyBlog Control Panel. On the top left of the page you should see a line of Green text tell you what version you are using. If that part does not load then please go to backend -> EasyBlog -> Updater and check the version here Hope this helps.

Thanks!

Hello Fabrizio,

You could go to the backend > easyblog and check it for there.
Screenshot --> http://screencast.com/t/eC7kBZzsv

Using the developer tools using inspect element on your easyblog site and type below on your console:
EasyBlog.version

I had already done it and currently you are using Version "3.8.14576" of easyblog.
EasyBlog 3.8.x or older to 3.9.x requires a full installation. The reason is because there are some core files which were modified in this release and running the updater would actually break things.

You could get your latest easyblog in
Link --> stackideas.com/dashboard

Thanks:)

Thanks for posting this - I also had the exact same issue. Can't help feeling it wouldn't be that difficult to have the updater system post a message that it only updates sub versions rather than the confusing message about the API key being incorrect!

Anyway I followed your advice about manually updating and downloaded the install file but when I try to install via Joomla I get a message saying "There was an error uploading this file to the server" (My max file size setting on PHP is 3000 KB )

Hello Andrew,

Were sorry for your in conveniences, to install your file via install manager you would have to contact your webhosting provider to increase your upload_max_filesize at leaset 10mb. Another option is to upload your installer to your tmp folder and install it via "install via directory".

If you need further assistance please provide us with the Joomla back end access as well as the FTP access so that I can check on the issues on your site?

Thanks:)

Why is it that of all the Joomla add-ons I have used, only yours needs upload_max_filesize higher than 2MB (and in fact a whopping 10MB you say!)

I did find your instructions for installing via the temporary directory - they didn't work! I did then figure out how to do it after some more experimenting and web searching.

It would be good if you could sort the issues out :

(a) Updater doesn't update! (ok it probably updates minor updates but not anything else.)
(b) Updater gives unhelpful error message (saying invalid API key rather than "can't upgrade major releases")
(c) Specify in the sales info minimum requirements such as needing upload_max_filesize set to a (huge!) 10M value
(d) If you really do need to make such big package with files bigger that 2MB and there is no way around this (although others seem to have it figured) then make sure you display a link to the solutions, rather than expecting people to work out what is going on by having to explore the forum. Also make sure the instructions work! (I found extracting the zip file to the tmp folder didn't work but putting the zip file to the tmp folder and then using "Install from URL" worked.

I notice that in 'why it might not install (http://stackideas.com/docs/easyblog/installation/failed-to-install-easyblog) makes no mention of upload_max_filesize but I imagine this is quite a common reason why it would fail to install?

Hello Andrew,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as we might have missed your reply earlier. Please find the answers to your inquiries below:

Why is it that of all the Joomla add-ons I have used, only yours needs upload_max_filesize higher than 2MB (and in fact a whopping 10MB you say!)
I did find your instructions for installing via the temporary directory - they didn't work! I did then figure out how to do it after some more experimenting and web searching.

The reason why only EasyBlog requires such a large size is simply because we have tons of features that perhaps no other extension has as much. Larger extensions would eventually hit the same issue but let's not talk about extensions here. Even with a 2mb restriction by your hosting provider, this also means that you can only upload photos that are smaller than 2mb which at this point of time wouldn't make much sense since most images generated these days by your mobile devices are larger than 2mb.

(a) Updater doesn't update! (ok it probably updates minor updates but not anything else.)

In EasyBlog 4.0, we will be revamping the entire installation / upgrade workflow to be similar to what EasySocial has.

(b) Updater gives unhelpful error message (saying invalid API key rather than "can't upgrade major releases")

Agreed, it will definitely be updated on 4.0

(c) Specify in the sales info minimum requirements such as needing upload_max_filesize set to a (huge!) 10M value

Noted. Will update our docs area.

(d) If you really do need to make such big package with files bigger that 2MB and there is no way around this (although others seem to have it figured) then make sure you display a link
to the solutions, rather than expecting people to work out what is going on by having to explore the forum.
Also make sure the instructions work! (I found extracting the zip file to the tmp folder didn't work but putting the zip file to the tmp folder and then using "Install from URL" worked.

We can't control this because as soon as you hit the upload button, Joomla is already throwing errors about not being able to find the file package.

I notice that in 'why it might not install (http://stackideas.com/docs/easyblog/installation/failed-to-install-easyblog) makes no mention of upload_max_filesize but I imagine this is quite a common reason why it would fail to install?

Thanks for the heads up on this, we'll probably need to update the title of the article.

Do you still need help in helping you install / upgrade EasyBlog on the site? I could help you upgrade it if you want?

Thanks for the answers and comments. My subscription ends in February so will wait and see if version 4 comes out before then and also if it tackles these issues. I have another product that had issues with the large file size and they found a way around it somehow so I guess it is technically possible. As for saying 2MB is to small for practical use as photo's are always bigger than that, I find it very easy to get my photo's smaller than that!
