There is an issue with your site where Joomla isn't returning the current active menu for some odd reasons as mentioned on https://stackideas.com/forums/error-message-1 . This is most likely the case which causes the read more button to not show as it wasn't able to inherit the settings from the menu.

Yes, that is because I hardcoded the view to use the first layout but the problem still persists because Joomla isn't able to detect the current active menu on the site.

Is it possible that you setup a test site so that I can try to turn off SH404 to find the culprit behind this?

The h-cleaning.nl is already a backup site. At this moment I am not able to place this site on another test site. I have made a backup of this site. So it should be okay to make the changes, and if it doesn't work a can replace it with the backup I made.

It seems the sh404 component url was causing this. I have helped you delete this url from sh404(http://take.ms/XT7NX) and it seems the showcase is now showing properly in the grid layout(http://take.ms/zeoOe). If you are experiencing anymore similar issues where the menu item settings are not being respected, perhaps you can try purging your sh404 links, then let it regenerate the new links and see it solves the issue. However, keep in mind that you should backup the site beforehand in case you have added any custom SEF url in the past.

Thanks for looking up the problem. But is there a possibilty to show the read more button also in the layout: Showcase post type -> Featured post.

Because I prefer this layout and at the moment it looks quite strange without a read more button.

Only the showcase has the ability to show the 'continue reading' button(http://take.ms/II9wP). Also, if you set Showcase Post Type=Featured Post in the menu item setting, then only featured posts will show in the showcase.
The other posts in the grid do not have the 'continue reading' button as mentioned previously.
