Points are fun and all and give a soft metric of interactivity, but how could they be made more useful? I don't think using them to render real services or goods would be a smart idea, so what else could they be utilized for if an app was made to use them as a currency?

The only thing I can think of would be purchasable badges that are simply for fun, or to "buy" an alternate template that could be used on the site for the user. What are your thoughts?
Hello David,

That is actually quite an interesting idea. Right now points in easysocial are only used for user leaderboard purpose and achievement. We do have some discussion about this in the past as you can see from the forum thread here, http://stackideas.com/forums/spending-easysocial-points . From what I know is that we do not have any plan to implement this feature yet.

Oh I didn't think such a feature was in the pipeline, but if there were an interest or some neat ideas, it would be a project I'd like to tackle in the future as practice in my learning of PHP.

Hi David

I have a feeling that there is something along these lines already in existence.

http://www.nordmograph.com

The thing is that the above Site is currently down!

Imagine that I have a paid subscription Site.

Members (non contributing) could pay to view for e.g. video tutorials.
But why not have creators of tutorials earn points for creating said tutorials.
These points could be used by contributing members to view tutorials from other contributing members!

i.e. Contributors have free access. None contributors pay!

Viola

Ick, suspended by host. Hopefully it wasn't a breach of ToS and simply a matter of resource usage. As far as the idea is concerned, it's an interesting one. For myself, though, I'm not sure if I'd want to utilize it in conjunction with real monetization. Primarily because the site I'm working on is non-profit. :P

I'm redesigning http://www.igdabcs.org. It is a chapter website of IGDA.org and I have big ideas for the main website, but I need to make a proof of concept first. What I'm trying to do is make an interactive and engaging website for our members who are video game developers. Users can share their work for the purpose of portfolios, collaborate with other members, and stay in touch with the video game development community. The more I can offer for developers, the better.
