Actually that footer position you can assign some of the module to display on that position.

Since you do not want to display any module on this footer position, you can apply this following CSS into this file.
JoomlaFolder/templates/echo/css/custom.css

.echo .echo-footer {

    padding: 0px !important;

}

Another styling issue will fixed in next release version.

This is mainly because the content is too little on the page. We don't specify a fixed height since that would cause a lot of issues. You could try inserting more content
