1) Will users have a choice whether to join the group?

If you have assigned 2 different groups into a profile type, the users would be assigned to these groups automatically. They will not be able to choose the group.

2) Is there a way to have the 1,746 + 18 users join these groups WITHOUT kicking off an email notification 1,746 + 18 times?

When you add users to the groups from the back end, it shouldn't be generating any notifications. Were you receiving notifications for this?

Apologies - can you tell me how to assign users in the back-end to a group?

To clarify - I'm looking to assign them to an Easy Social group (not Joomla group.)
