We have been well pleased with the customization capabilities of Komento and would like to create a custom theme for EasyDiscuss. Does it have the same capability to create a custom theme like Komento or is it written in a way that we can make use of Joomla's MVC with template overrides in template/mytemplate/com_easydiscuss/view ?
Hello Don,

It looks like your account isn't tied up with any EasyDiscuss subscriptions on our site and your EasyBlog is already expired. Is there any mistake on our end? Would it be possible for you to contact us at https://crm.stackideas.com and provide us with the order reference and your username so that we can fix this up for you?

Thank you for your understanding.

Perhaps I am in err, I thought I had posted this question in the Pre Sales category? I would like to purchase EasyDiscuss but, obviously, won't if the changes I need to make to the layout can't survive a future upgrade.

Hello Don,

I am sorry for the misunderstanding before.
I believe EasyDiscuss and Komento are using MVC and it is possible to make a template override in template/mytemplate/com_easydiscuss/view. You can use this as guide: http://stackideas.com/docs/easyblog/customizations/template-overriding .

I'm not sure what do you mean by the "survive a future upgrade". I believe for every update, the EasyDiscuss themes will be return to the original but if you have done Joomla template override, this will not be a issue. It is advisable to do backup before update any component in your site.

Hope this will help.
Thanks.

Oh good, thank you. On Komento, it seemed like we could make a duplicate copy of one of the theme files and rename it to another name so that the theme would not be overwritten in an upgrade. But for EasyDiscuss if we can at least save a customized view using Joomla's template overrides, this will be do just as well. Occasionally we run into a component that has a structure that doesn't conform to Joomla's override capability so I have learned to ask.

Thank you for your answer, we will purchase the component.

hey don,
in fact both ways, duplicating the theme with renaming as well as joomla's native template override function work absolutely fine with easydiscuss.

hope that helps and have a nice day
