Hi SI Team

I have a profiling system e.g. here:

http://www.finalbug.net/bruce-the-yak

Members can enter custom info using a Multi List Form e.g. in the category for video:

Video Form/Section

Avid
Color
DVD Studio Pro
Encore
Final Cut Pro Classic
Final Cut Pro X
Final Cut Server
Lightworks
Premiere
Resolve
Smoke

Question 01

As of now I am using a MultiList form to get people to input their “tools”
What if I want to change the input method e.g. in the category for video:
I want to use a “Checkboxes” input form instead of a “MultiList” form!

Will I lose all inputed data so far or is it possible to retain this data after changing the form/input method?

Question 02

I want to move some of the tools off into another form/section.

e.g.

Take:

Color
Resolve

from here:

Video Form/Section

Avid
Color
DVD Studio Pro
Encore
Final Cut Pro Classic
Final Cut Pro X
Final Cut Server
Lightworks
Premiere
Resolve
Smoke

And put them in a new section called:

Colour Form/Section

Color
Resolve

If I were to do this would any one who had entered “Color” in the “Video” section now turn up in the “Colour” section?

I hope this makes sense?

thanks in advance

Paul
Hi Paul,
Unfortunately, the 2 items mentioned above are not possible to achieve as there is no functionality to duplicate custom fields in profile type. Duplicating the custom fields will not work too as you are planning to use a different custom field for the first issue.

For the first question, you will have to create the new custom field and manually create those options again.
For the second question, the custom field already input by users are linked to their user account. So creating a new and similar custom field does not change this. If you really want to move the option to another custom field, then your users would have to set this option again in their profile.

Hi Raymond

This is kind of what I was afraid of.
I guess that with some mySQL tricks I could probably get this to work.
But that kind of stuff is over my head as of now.

Those input methods go back to “Community Builder” days and were imported into Easy Social 1.0ish something

thanks all the same

Hey Paul,
Yes I have already taken database manipulation into consideration while providing the response above.
Those input methods go back to “Community Builder” days and were imported into Easy Social 1.0ish something
Are you referring to user migration from CB or ES? Or are you referring to importing user CSV? If that's the case, they are a different thing altogether compared to this as you are just looking to change some custom fields here.

Hi Raymond

I have no idea how this worked exactly...
If my memory serves me correctly...
I believe there was some kind of CB to ES migrator which worked 90%
And then someone from SI helped me some how with the last 10%

Do not know if this changes things?

best

Hey Paul,
Hm, since now you are just looking to create/edit some custom fields, the migration from a while back does not have anything to do with this.

Hey Raymond

No worries.
Lets just let this slide.
Maybe some day when I become a MySQL guru.

thanks
