Hi

Custom fields only editable by a special user group (let's say only administrators) and still be visible by everyone. What I try to do is to define custom fields per user which can only be written by administrators but are shown in the profile (public or also for a certain group). This would give the ability to define custom fields per user which are only visible to administrators.

Thank you and kind regards, Stefan
Nice idea Stefan!

I definitely want this feature ASAP if possible but v1.2 feature is closed, hopefully this gets added to v1.3. Would also be nice if a custom field can have a setting for Joomla ACL, that way we can create Fields that are viewable only by certain Joomla Groups, in my case only Staff sees it or edit. My use for this feature is something like a Note (textarea) field where Staff can put a note about the User. One application example for this is for Case Management, a Staff write a note about a particular User and other Staff will be able to see it or add new line of assessment.

Hello Guys,

This is already possible in 1.1.6 and 1.2.0. For those fields that you do not want to allow users to edit, all you need to do is to click on the custom field, and click on the "View" tab. Then, only leave the "Appear during displaying" option enabled as shown in my screen shot here, http://screencast.com/t/Z7VwOvEvzAcS .

This way, you as the admin would be able to edit the user's settings at the back end

Hi Mark,

Yes Jason did helped me with this and he said he added the hack for Site Admin edit in the backend - shouldn't this a default for Site Admin without a hack?. But adding an ACL to the field will enable an edit in the FrontEnd which users are always login to.

Just one of my wish in my wishlist hopefully it gets added in the future!

Hm, not sure if I understand you here but if you disable the options shown in the screen above, the fields would still appear at the back end when you are editing a user regardless .

Yes, that's what I'm saying, it should be a default behavior for all Custom Fields in the backend if a Site Admin is viewing it regardless if the setting is disabled or not, a Site Admin should be able to view or edit the field.

My wish is a setting in the Fields for ACL so I can give a Joomla Group of my choice to be able to edit or view a Field or Fields that are not viewable or editable by the Users in the Front End.

The current field setting will hide the fields from both Users and the Site Admin in the Front End. I have already tested this.

Exactly ! Joomla ACL per field and section. By the way, I don't see the option "Appear in Mini Registration"... I'm logged in as Super Admin. See screenshot.

With the ACL aspect it should be in it's own tab called "Permission" or "ACL".

Nice idea Josh, I agree, another Tab for Field ACL.

If you subscribe to Jing, you can do what Mark did, it's convenient to share screenshots.

Thanks for the heads up on this guys but I am still a little lost here (Sorry, I tried drinking lots of coffee). If you have already turned off the following:

- Appear during Registration
- Appear during Editing

That particular custom field can be edited by the administrator at the back end but still displayed to everyone on the front. Am I missing anything here?

Mark,

Sorry for confusing you

The custom fields are not visible to the Users in the Front End if the above settings you mentioned are turned off. And the custom Fields are Yes editable by the Site Admin in the backend.

What we are asking is ACL for Custom Fields so we can further set accessibility to it for the Front End.

I hope I'm explaining it clearly
