Hi Mark & Team,

I don't know if this is even possible the reason I've been asking for Custom Field ACL instead of Privacy is because Privacy is managed by Users whereas ACL is managed by Site Admin, I guess at least to my understanding.

I am building a Lock Down mode community, so all Users will have to Login to see everything. In Advanced Search Select Field, I would like to limit the ability of Community Users by letting them search for Name, Email, Gender only (initially). But I would like the Staff Group (Joomla Group) or Staff Profile (ES Profile Type) to have all the fields as criteria for Advanced Search. That way we can collect demographic data as Management but limit the Users to just basic Search functionality.

The issue with the current (v1.2.17) setting in Custom Field is if Search is disabled, even the Site Admin doesn't see the Field in Advanced Search select fields dropdown. It's like on or off, I also posted a question about this here.

Thanks,

Jackson
Hello Jackson,

I am really sorry but unfortunately I don't think it's possible right now to be able to do this

Hi Mark,

Bummer!

Any thoughts to what I'm trying to do? Or any plan or have you guys thought of adding this feature in the future?

Do you think I will be able to override the Theme and do what I wanted? At least in theme I can validate for User's Profile or Joomla Group? Sorry I'm asking you first before I even look at the code I just thought you knew ES code more than I do and you can easily tell me what's possible or not.

Thanks,

Jackson

Hello Jackson,

I don't really think you could do this just by overriding the theme files as you'll also need to hack the library to achieve this. Unfortunately I don't think we'll be including this because this does seem like a very niche feature for your site

Hi Mark,

I understand

But please consider this in the future, if you put myself in your shoes building a community using EasySocial. I will provide the cool features to users, make things easier for them to make my community successful. But what are the cool feature that EasySocial provides for Site Owner? Of course aside from having EasySocial for me I would like to collect metrics of what people are doing or information in the community like, what people most liked in terms of Photos, Profiles that are most Liked by Users, Most seen Photos, Most Attended Events (later), Active Users that logged in 3 hours in a day, Women aged 25-30, Men 18-25, etc etc. Why do I want these metrics? Well I want to be able to send Newsletter targeting Women age 25-30 because I have this cool event that are design for their age demography. Or I may want to have lunch with the most Liked person in my community things like that. You know what I mean, big data metrics.

Look at how Facebook did their Search, they provided all the simplest available metrics for users, like People I may Know, My Friends, Photos I have Liked, etc. Nothing about HighSchool where you graduated, College you Graduated, My Friends Birthday, or My Friends Aged 25-30, My Women Friends, among other things. Who knows what their Staff/Engineers can see and can collect to create Advertising Metrics based on what User's information.

I understand that ES is still at early stage and most of you focus are for Users I am hopeful that you will add features that will make Community Owners happy as well in the future.

Thanks,

Jackson
