Hi !

I've a site where easydiscuss is used, and I want to know what is the best option : setting a cronjob or chosing the "page load" option for sending email notifications for my users. Which one is the quickest, or which one is the best for the shared server.

Best regards,

Paul
Hi Paul,

Cronjobs are always recommended if you want to perform scheduled tasks. The page load option is more of a last resort option if you are unable to set up a cronjob from your server.

The page load option also generally induces more load on the server if there is heavy traffic on the site and may even send duplicate mails, making it an unstable option.

As for the quickness, page load does not have a set interval like cronjobs. This means its trigger depends entirely on whether the page is loaded in the frontend. If there are no visitor loading EasyDiscuss pages, then the page load option does not get triggered until they do so, again making this an unstable option.

For cronjobs, you can specify the interval in which they are executed so the site admin has control over this.

Yep, it is ideal to setup a cronjob as it would be the most reliable
