Original thread: Using EasyDiscuss With EasySocial Groups TKABE ยท #260153

Hi,

Could you tell me how to create an ED4 forum and designate the forum only for access by a specific ES Group?

Background:

ES Group A (can't see Group B forums or discussions)
|__forum 1
|__ES Group member creates new discussion

ES Group B (can't see Group A forums or discussions)
|__forum 2
| |__ES Group member creates new discussion
|
|__forum 5

Thanks in advance for your guidance.

Todd
Hi Todd,

Hm, seems like you are using EasySocial 1.3 instead of 1.4 and I'm afraid there might be some compatibility issue when you using this apps since there are lots of new variable that are being used in this apps. I will test this further with easysocial 1.3 and see if I can manage to make it compatible with each other.

By the way it is advisable for you to update your easysocial component to latest version so that you can have the benefits and feature that we offer in latest version.

Regarding on why the button is not appearing is because your current custom theme is hiding the filter bar of group page with this css code inside the file, /components/com_easysocial/themes/jf_connecto_es/jf/assets/css/jf_template.min.css :
body div#fd.es.es-main .es-filterbar {
display: none;
}

As soon I remove the code above, the button is showing up correctly, http://screencast.com/t/lW1RFUFi9l1 . You need to consult with your theme provider so that they can apply an appropriate fix to show the filter bar inside group page.

Hope these help.

Hi Tkabe,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply.

The behavior of EasyDiscuss group apps will behave similar like ES group privacy. If the group was open, everyone will be able to access the discussion and read the discussion. However only group member will be able to reply to the discussions.

By the way have you tried easydiscuss group apps yet ? You can download the apps from here and try the discussion behavior yourself, http://stackideas.com/apps/item/3320-easydiscuss-group . Let us know if there are some issue with the apps and we will assist you accordingly.

Ezrul,

I understand your reply, however I do have a few issues getting the integration setup between ED4 and ES Groups.

1. I installed the EasyDiscuss Group App (find both an admin and user login info in my saved site details)

See the app installed here - must be logged into site.
harvardmacy.org/index.php/my-courses/item/8-2016-educators/157-easydiscuss

2. I reviewed the ED4 Settings and specifically ACL settings for registered users

3. I created a new test-category

4. I created two discussions

Questions:
1. I do not see how the ES Groups are assigned/associated with the categories or specific discussions.
2. The two discussions I created do not appear in the group page provided above.
3. I do not see a method to create discussions from within the ES Group. I did see the ACL settings for user groups that specifically reference options for users to view, create reply etc. however I can't seem to figure out this part.

I must be missing something that will make this work

As always, thanks in advance for your guidance!

Hi Todd,

You can only first create a discussion from ES group page itself under "easydiscuss" apps filter as you can see from my screenshot here, http://screencast.com/t/lnrgQsdf .

Once the discussion is created on #1, the discussion will appear on both EasySocial group page under 'easydiscuss' apps filter and inside EasyDiscuss page under "group" menu item below the toolbar as you can see here, http://screencast.com/t/qPArgVN3Z . Note that this menu will only appear once you have installed and publish the apps from backend > easysocial > applications.

3. I do not see a method to create discussions from within the ES Group. I did see the ACL settings for user groups that specifically reference options for users to view, create reply etc. however I can't seem to figure out this part.

Currently anyone inside the group will be able to create and reply to the discussion. We will add a new rule of permission level on which user should able to create or reply to discussion or which group categories are able to access group discussion feature in the future.

Ezrul,

I now see the trouble I had understanding how to create ED discussions in groups. I do not see the create discussion button as you mentioned after installing the app.

When the app is installed, I presume the content in the page main area (filtered content view) should look similar to your screen capture, however the button to create a discussion is missing.

Does this button get created by the code installed with the app? If so, something might be wrong with the current app code/installation zip I downloaded. I just downloaded the app today so it is the most current version.

Please advise next steps.

Hm, that is odd. By right the button should appear when you are member of the group. By the way I am not able to access your site and test it directly due to incorrect credentials.

Please advise.
