Create custom field type

I need a the field type autocomplete because I have a list of hundreds and hundreds of universities ( as my members will be selecting what school they attend) and the dropdown would not be a good idea in this situation.

So can I get any documentation for my developer to create our own field type (autocomplete) that we could use for the custom field in ES.

Hello Guys,

Thank you for the heads up on this. We admit that lot of people are requesting this feature to be implement as it will give more flexibility especially for Gene case where he have thousands of data and it will be not practical to view it in drop down list. I believe our developer will work on this any time soon. Thank you for your kind understanding and feedback.

I admit, though, if this becomes a feature that I would be all for it. An auto complete text box could be used for location, major studied, hobbies, or really any large array that'd be unusable in a drop down menu.

Thanks so much for all your help. Ezrul I know you can't get me an ETA on this (which I understand for expectation issues with customers). But Im going assume it won't happen within the next week unless I hear otherwise... as im going to need someone to do it by then.

Do you know when this field will be available for us. I had it priced out with custom and it I'd hate to waste the time and money if you are planning to release this field soon. I would greatly appreciate any insight your range you can give me.
