Hi There!

  1. Most of complaints that I receive from users when they create an account is when activating it (I set it to Self Activate). After form submit it will take the user to a page where it says "Activate your Account" and with a form that is asking for the token code.

  2. https://monosnap.com/file/bVjZfhTaPT2RJhWNmQpblvI8Em5bAY#

Notice the language in this page where it specifically telling the user about a code.

When they check their email, what are they expecting in their mind when they see the email content? The code! The code! Now look at the instruction in the email:

"Your account is created and must be activated before you may login to the site.
To activate your account, click on the following link or copy-paste it in your browser:"

    [Activate Now]

Although, there is a button that is highlighted with blue color, I am wondering why some people don't get it. Maybe because of the activation page where it specifically asked for the code? When they see the email, they just scan the content looking for a code like text. The button does not look like a code and it got ignored?

  3. Is it possible that ES will send the activation notification email without the code in it? I just got an email from one of the user complaining about this, saying that "There's no code that I can copy in this email. Please help!"

  4. https://monosnap.com/file/yi2ukS1msW8O1HtPlgb18dE5DWJ7Rh#

But when I tested it, it does have the code in the email I received. Fluke? But there must be something that would cause it right? I checked the email source and the container where the token code should does not have content:

Thanks,

Jackson
Hi Jackson,

Regarding the activation email, we can certainly do something about the phrase that may potentially confuse users(http://take.ms/KdMam).

As for the missing token, like yourself, unfortunately I am unable to replicate this(http://take.ms/kwqGv). I have also checked your email template file and it seems to be in order.

Perhaps if you manage to replicate or encounter the issue on your site, can you inform us so we can take a look in the email activity?

When the user report that they are not able to view the token, can you check the email activity in your backend for the same email to see if the token is there(http://take.ms/tEbx4).

Also, may I know what email, client and browser did the user used to view the email?

Hi Raymond,

Yes, maybe separating the text that has copy-paste, for example:

To activate your account, simply click on the button below.

[Activate Your Account Now]

If you want to manually activate your account, please copy the code below and paste it in the activation page.

Something like that.

As for the missing token, like yourself, unfortunately I am unable to replicate this(http://take.ms/kwqGv). I have also checked your email template file and it seems to be in order.

Yes, I cannot replicate this issue as well.

I sure will. By the way, I checked the Email Activity and I am not finding anything about registration or activation. All I see are emails on stream activities. Is there a setting for that to include it in the email activities?

Also, may I know what email, client and browser did the user used to view the email?

Email address is gmail, I don't have info about email client or the browser, I can ask the user and will let you know when I get an answer.

Thanks,

Jackson

Alright Jackson.

The only way to display immediate emails in the email activity is by enabling development mode on the site(http://take.ms/bEtpT).

If you are fine with this, you can temporarily enable this. Then ask the user to register to get the mail activity.

As for the translation, I will change them to the following(http://take.ms/v4XWz).

Hi Raymond,

I think that was just a fluke but if it happened again I'll do what you suggested.

As to the email text, now that's what I'm talking about better and pointing users directly to where they should be.

Just a wish, I don't know if it is possible or your dev will agree. After clicking on Submit button to create an account, the user is redirected to the activation page and asking for the activation code. Do you think that also creates confusion? What if the user is redirected to a page or a popbox appears where it says something like:

Thank you! Your account has been created. To finish creating your account, you will need to activate it or verify your email address. We have just sent you a welcome email and the instruction on how to do it.

That is if self-activation is selected in the settings. The activation page has a link in the email anyways to if the user choose to do a copy-paste of the code then they have the link to that form. No need to show them the form right away.

Like I said, just a wish, but think about it, I think it will streamline the registration process and creates a better UX.

Thanks,

Jackson

Hey Jackson,

Thanks for providing your feedback on the registration activation process.

As far as the confusion goes, this is the first that we have heard.

I will log this in our tracker to discuss with the devs and see what we can do to reduce the confusion of this process in 2.1(translation change mentioned earlier will be a part of this change).

Hi Raymond,

If I may suggest, please see attached image. I think this email layout and text would make it more clearer for end users:
