Good evening guys. I am setting up my EasySocial app and I'm trying to register on my site. When I register a new member I get a warning: Could not start mail function.

Please adivse!
Hi Jason,

Most probably your mail setting was not configure correctly where it cannot send email properly, can you try to send test mail : https://www.screencast.com/t/IhQ1MMqcxjr and double check if the email configuration was key in correctly.

I tested the php mail function in global config and it sent fine. I received the message "your php mail settings are correct. I tried creating an account again and received the same "error" message: Could not start mail function???

After reading documentation and looking at previous installations, I noticed the when EasySocial is configured to require admin approval for new registrations, the system sends the email. However, when it is configured to require user activation, the system warning is: could not start mail function

Hey Jason,

On some occasion, if you are try to use an invalid e-mail address that doesn't exist, Joomla would also throw such errors. Also, if you are using PHP mail, there are instances where it would work if it tries to send an e-mail internally (on the same hosting).

If you try changing your e-mail address to a gmail, are you able to receive the test e-mail from Joomla's Global Configuration?

Hi Mark,

It was not a Stackideas problem. It was the hosting comany. My server was blacklisted and it was preventing any email from being delivered. I switched hosting companies to one of your recommended hosting providers and it works exactly the way should. Thank you for helping me work through this.
