I love the concept of this plugin but maybe Im not quite getting how to limit what is posted.

I have set "Fetch New Articles to These Categories:" to just one category. However whenever I create ANY new article (and some other things, but maybe they are creating articles too), it gets posted into the Discussion category. What I am trying to accomplish here is to allow a certain group to post articles (that only are in that one category) that then get new entries into EasyDiscuss. An authorized group of submitters submit the articles, that are then cleaned up and posted by "publishers" later.

How do I resolve this?
Hello Lynn,

What the plugin actually does is to automatically generate a discussion. If you have only selected specific categories to be allowed, the plugin would only then automatically generate discussions for categories that you have selected.

Hi Mark,

Yes, I understand it generates a discussion.

But I have only selected one category of articles to turn into discussions - and its generating a new discussion for EVERY new article created, not limited to the category of articles I selected. I only want one category to be turned into discussions - isn't it supposed to work that way?

Yes, sending you a user name and pw. The site is offline until we are able to launch. If you turn it on for testing purposes, make sure you turn it off again.

Hello Lynn,

I've made two test posts in your joomla article and these are the results:
This post I created in the Uncategorised category and it doesn't create a discussion in Easydiscuss: http://screencast.com/t/883KK1FJ
And this post I created in the New Release category and it shows the link to Easydiscuss: http://screencast.com/t/IgBv67vPu

Seems like the plugin is working fine. Did I missed anything? Please advise.

Hi Nick,

A few more details...

Ive been talking with the guys at JV Extensions about their directory (which we use). If you look in our EasyDiscuss forum, you'll see that there are a bunch of entries there. Those are being generated every time I create a new category in JV-LD. At first I thought this might be a JV-LD problem. Then they suggested that I go ahead and a new, regular Joomla category - and that too is generating a new discussion in EasyDiscuss!

As you can see, Ive set this up EasyDiscuss content plugin to capture articles from one category. Maybe I am misunderstanding this - I thought it would only include articles from that one category and leave everything else alone. It shouldn't be generating new articles based on new categories.

I thought JV-LD might be the problem....but its all ending up in EasyDiscuss. What do you think? Here's a link to my chain of posts over on JV-Extensions for reference. I don't think they are doing anything very exotic.

I set up an account for Mark Lee already for log in purposes.

EasyDiscuss is generating a new discussion from new Joomla categories that are not designated. Ill also send a note to support since this is a critical issue for us.

Hello Lynn,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. Can you please provide us with the Article link that displays EasyDiscuss despite it's category is not selected?

Hi Mark,

The only category of new articles that should be generating EasyDiscuss discussions are new articles in the "New Releases" category.

However, when a new Joomla category is created, or when a new JV-LD category is created (either one), it generates a new EasyDiscuss discussion. I thought at first it might be a JV-LD issue. But creating a new, standard, Joomla category is doing it. Ive only indicated in the Content plugin to generate new discussions from new articles from the one category, not from new categories themselves.

You can see there are a whole bunch of new EasyDiscuss discussions there. They were generated when I added new categories to JV-LD, and also when I added new Joomla categories.

Hello Lynn,

I have applied some fixes on the plugin so that the generation of these linked articles will only be created when someone views the post instead of during saving. Can you see if this is working for you? I have tested this by creating 3 new categories in Joomla and there's no discussion generated for these items.

Hi Mark,

Thanks! It seems to be working correctly now. You'll include this fix in the next update to EasyDiscuss, so it will work fine the next time we upgrade?

Hello Lynn,

Yes, we'll be updating the plugin but to be honest with you, the plugin is still in beta actually as we are not confident in releasing it as stable yet

Hello Danovan Thorpe,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here.
Correct me if i getting wrong, it seems like your current issues is not same as this post thread issues right?
If yes, I would personally prefer that you start a new thread instead and guide us how to reproduce this issues? Please advise.

Alex, it think I figured out what happened. I am using RT Rokpad2 as my text editor. I have set it to save every minute or so as I type. Usually before I start typing I would pick the category, but this time I forgot and saved it under uncategorized which in turn would be, from what I can see would be Misc. under easydisuss.
I realized this because after looking at the articles that were displayed, on the ones that I forgot to assign to a category were displayed.

Thank you for allowing me to do a double take. I will, for future reference pay closer attention before I post.
I realize now that if I had looked closer I would have found the problem.
