I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it weekends for all of us here.

In easysocial there are settings to set photo size and quality during uploads from your backend > easysocial > settings > photos > uploader, http://screencast.com/t/HOrOGZorn . You can set the value lower to minimize the photo size during the upload hence it will minimize server storage on your site. Unfortunately there are no compression features for attachment currently.
