How do you set the ordering of comments?

Can an option be added so that there is a default number of replies shown, and then the pagination option would load xx# of additional comments? Currently the pagination option controls both the default output and number of additional comments should be loaded with each click.

Thank you,
James
Hey James,

How do you set the ordering of comments?

Currently, there is no setting to set the ordering for it as we had hardcoded the comments by descending order based on its created date.

Can an option be added so that there is a default number of replies shown, and then the pagination option would load xx# of additional comments? Currently the pagination option controls both the default output and number of additional comments should be loaded with each click.

Do you mean that you want the Replies shown in a discussion to be like the comments which it can show the 'Load More Comments' button, when the number of comments has exceed the number of Maximum Comments Per Load?

Thank you Irwin and sorry for the late reply.

1. Can this setting be changed to a parameter in the ED backend in an up and coming release so that we have control?
2. Regarding the comments, we want it to show (1) by default but have a pagination load of (5) so when you view a conversation initially you will see the original post and if comments have been made you will only see the latest comment, then if the users clicks "Load More" it will load 5 additional comments each time the load more is clicked.

Thank you,
James

Hey James,

There is something that I want to confirm with you about your suggestion.

1. Do you mean that you suggest a setting that can set ascending OR descending order for the comments?

2. Do you mean that you suggest having one comment item only by default with 'Load More Comments' feature?

3. Do you also mean that you suggest having 'Load More Replies' feature for replies just like the comments on the Entry Post?

Thank you @Irwin.

I believe the response to all of your questions is YES, with the ability to control the default number visible and be able to control Ascending/Decending. Essentially what we are wanting to achieve is a Forum structure similar to Reddit. Easydiscuss does this in many ways as is but these few things above can complete that functionality.

You can see here an example Forum Post at Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/a050of/bitcoin_sinks_below_4000_as_the_crypto_market/

Essentially what happens is you have the primary post which can contain comments, and then those comments can have their own string of post and comments below them. If you scroll down the Thread you will see how it loads the first level and then offers a button to load more replies/comments.

See attached screenshot....

Thank you,
James

Thanks for getting back to us James, we will add a setting to allow admin to control the default number of comment visible at the first page and able to control Ascending/Decending ordering as well in next release version.

And Easydiscuss doesn't have those reply/comment thread level so it can't be easier to achieve like how Reddit work that way currently, but you can submit this feature request into our forum page.

Thank you Arlex, I appreciate the update.

Regarding the workflow, ED is very similar obviously some differences but I believe if we can get those features as mentioned previously I think it will help us achieve a close enough result without a major overhaul.
