Hi,

in group settings I see this FOUR option

1. Open Group | Appear in search result

2. Open Group with moderation | Appear in search result

3. Closed Group with moderation | Appear in search result

4. Invitation only group | Doesn't appear in search result

--

Well, I think 2 and 3 are the same

AND

that is missing:

Open group with moderation | Doesn't appear in search result

-

Don't know if it's a problem in my EasySocial or a missing feature / bug.

--

Screenshot for the same
Hi Vincenzo,

I tried creating a public group that requires moderation and it looks like it is display in the listing properly(http://take.ms/qclqp). Am I missing something here?

Perhaps you provide me the exact steps where the public group is not display in results?

Hi Raymond.

See 2 and 3:

2. Open Group with moderation | Appear in search result

3. Closed Group with moderation | Appear in search result

-

There is no difference between OPEN and CLOSED because - I think - "closed" should be a group that DOESN'T APPEAR in search results.

The users could arrive only from a link or by invitation.

There are 4 options for group creation but in effects 2 and 3 are overlapping so option are only 3.

Or maybe I don't understand the difference between:

OPEN group | moderation: yes | search results: yes

VS

CLOSED group | moderation: yes | search results: no

In summary: what's the difference between OPEN and CLOSED group if both require moderation and the user can find it and request to join?

Hope now it's clear what I say.

Hey Vincenzo,

Thanks for the explanation. I understand better now.

Basically the difference between option 2 and 3 is the open vs closed group so they are actually not the same.

Regarding open vs closed groups, the difference between them is that open groups(or public groups) allows non-members to view its contents(http://take.ms/HAysN) whereas closed groups(or private groups) does not allow non-members to view its contents(http://take.ms/eHKn5).

Hopefully this clarifies your question on open vs closed groups.

Oooh very thanks.

I understand now!

Great support as always.

(Hope you're going to think for a group option to hide the group from search result! ).

Hey Vincenzo,

You're most welcome.

If you do not want the group to appear in the listing, you can always change the group type to 'invite-only' in the group edit page.

Hi Raymond

For me ti would be useful to hide the group but allow the request.

Why?

So I can send (email/etc.) the link of the group and the user can be able tu request to join. Without this option group URL generates a 404 error.

Hey Vincenzo,

Thanks for the input on this! However, that would defeat the purpose of having an "Invite only" group eh? Imagine if I name a group "Vincenzo is a bad boy" and somehow, someone shared this link to you, then you will be very angry at me :x

Ahah maybe

But can be useful if one want to use that group as a support group (maybe differentiate for service...) or similar.

Imagine if all Stackideas was built on Easysocial

Then for every product you can create a group for support or sharing (PayPlan group | EasyBlog group | EasySocial group...) and in the email sent after purchase you can insert the link for the specific group.

The admin of that group see the request and is sure that it's from an user that bought a product, this because other users can't see the group (hidden from search results).

It's like the sharing system in YouTube: open, hidden, or visible only with a link.

Very thanks anyway for support !

Hey Vincenzo,

Hm, but if we would like to set this up, we would set this up as a Closed group because I want users to still be able to see them, they just can't join them without my approval / consent.

Oh, I think there is some misunderstandings here. Do you mean you want closed groups to be hidden altogether from the listings?

Perhaps you should post this in the feature requests and if there are enough people that votes for this functionality, we'll consider it
