In addition to the supplied templates, I always create some extras to give clients flexibility. On this particular one, the client asked for some very specific, and large, templates for upcoming events and photo display. I made these for him, but he now can't use them as, whenever he starts a post using one, it refuses to save. Smaller templates (Left Image, Right Image, etc) work fine for him.

I can use these templates so I know it isn't the template itself, but I can't think, on his end, what could be causing this. It sounds like a max file size or something like that. He cannot even open one of the larger templates, add JUST a title, and save - it crashes. Template IDs are 7, 8, and 10.
Hi Ian,
It sounds like a max file size or something like that.
If a post data is extremely huge, the saving it will require a large memory_limit from the server. But from what I checked, your post templates are not that huge to the point where even just adding the title cannot save properly.

I have tried saving/publishing some test posts(just title or title with some content) on the site using the mentioned post templates, but I am not able to reproduce any saving issues.

I also tested in different browsers. It may take some time to save due to the long post/huge content, but they eventually save or publish, without any crashes or errors.

Since it is quite difficult for us and yourself to reproduce this, can you ask your client to record a video/screencast of the issue? And let us know what devices have he tried with when he encounters the issue.

I asked the client: "So it’s only the bigger templates that cause you issue? Not the smaller ones like “Blank” or “Left/Right image”?"

His reply:

"That is correct. In fact:

I have set-up three photo blog posts for future use (all save fine)
Yesterday, I created, populated and saved a new template for animal adoptions (no problems at all)
This morning I created two new test posts (blank template and photo on the right), both saved just fine.

I tried to do an Event Post, only put in a title, categories and tags...would not save. Says NCP can't handle that request right now."

His 2nd email:

"Perhaps we eliminate both Event Templates from existence and I'll create a new one? I'm just at a loss.

However, this morning when I used your New Event Template, it would not save. I used the First Event Template and it did save multiple times(but normally doesn't)."

I can't think of why as it does sometimes save (as mentioned in his reply). I can only surmise a timeout which only shows on bigger templates (the biggest ones can have up to 10 images in them) which may be due to his internet.

More info from my client (now this really makes no sense):

"I created a Test Event Template and I added a bunch of graphics to it. It saves fine.

When I go to create a blog post using that template, I went in and eliminated 4 graphics (so it would less intense than the template), and it won't save."

I cannot understand how this is possible, but this issue is sucking up huge chunks of my time and leaving me with an upset client. I need help getting to the bottom of this. He does have a slow connection, but, given this latest revelation, that would not seem to be the issue, though he appears to be getting timeouts.

I just checked with my hosting company and memory_limit is set to 256Mb which should be ample I would have thought.

Hey Ian,

I am now able to reproduce the issue with saving when I tried to save a draft under the Test Event Template post template.

This is the error I'm seeing after I set error reporting to maximum: https://take.ms/4RAmK

Compared to the other post templates that I tested previously on the site, this post template is definitely a lot larger due to the huge amount of blocks, which is why it takes a significant longer amount of time to save.

As such, the max_execution_time from the server needs to also be larger. Currently this variable is set to 30 on your server(https://take.ms/Xlp2o). Can you try setting this value to 300 from your server as a start?

Let us know once you have made the change, so we can test the issue again.

That seemed to fix the issue - thanks! Never used big templates like this before so I know now.

You're most welcome Ian and glad to know that the issue is fixed.

I will now lock this thread. Feel free to start new threads if you have other issues.

Regards.
