Hello there,

after installation there is one profile in easysocial.
If I keep it as it is, without creating new profiles, new user must choose profile, though there is only one, so basically nothing to choose.

Then I checked in your support, ,f there is the possibility for the user, tho switch its profile later on in his settings. I found a post dated on 2014, that there is no such function yet, but will implemented in future versions.

Did this happened meanwhile?

This would be smthng I urgently need.
I would like to have 3 profiles on my site.
Profile 1 should use easysocial.
Profile 2 is Profile 1) + blogger rights
Profile 3 is profile 2) + blogs and articles automatically shown on homepage.

Can u help me with this?

Best regards,

Alp
Hi there Mehmet,

Currently, users of any kind (admin, non-admin) cannot change user's profile group from the front-end, only back-end. This mostly likely won't be implemented at all due to security reasons. In fact, a lot of settings aren't available from the front-end due to the danger of them being misused by non-authorized users.

You can change a user's profile group by:

1) Go to EasyBlog>Users
2) Choose a desire user by ticking on the checkbox besides their name (do not click on their name as the option is not in the individual user's page, then click on the Switch Profile as shown here http://screencast.com/t/hxmWQm3YVzcp

Note: You will need to have more than one group first to do this.

This can be done by creating profile groups and configure their settings accordingly. To do so:

1) Go to EasyBlog>Profile Types
2) Click the green "+New" button above the Profile Type header. Create a group.
3) Once you've create the group, you can then change their restriction settings from the ACL section. From there, you can configure according to what you want.

Note: Take note that those settings are mostly for EasySocial. The restriction settings for EasyBlog is on its own component page and it restricts users differently than EasySocial.

What you want to achieve for Profile 2 can be a bit complex. To do so, you will need to:

1) assign them to Joomla User groups as shown here: http://screencast.com/t/VFFqsXgJoPgI and set them to something higher ranked than Registered such as Author or Editor.

2) In >Categories, choose a category and under the Permissions section, set Privacy to Assigned Joomla User Group and choose the user group that you have set before. You can see it here: http://screencast.com/t/PktVZtvB

For example, you can set that a Registered User cannot post inside that category, but an Author can.

Note: The change only affects a blog category, you will need to configure the settings for all categories accordingly.

Profile 3 is profile 2) + blogs and articles automatically shown on homepage.

This actually has to do more with the menu settings for the page. Currently, only one type of page can be displayed at one time. For example, a Blog page can only display EasyBlog posts and not EasySocial posts. You can however, use EasyBlog modules such as "Showcase", "Recent Post", "Most Popular Post" to display blogs on the pages that you want. However, they won't show the entirety of the posts/blog, just a 'preview' of sorts to attract the user to click on them to read it.

I hope this answers your questions!

Well tnx for your reply.

It is a bit pitty, that users are not allowed at least to request a profile change.

Another question is,
if I leave profiles at it is, namely only 1 profile, do users still have to approve the group by registration?
It is a bit useless, since there is only one profile they can choose, rite?

Hey Mehmet,

Not really sure if I understand you here. What do you mean by "do users still have to approve the group by registration?" . Can you please elaborate more on this please?

While its true that users can't request profile change through EasySocial's system, they can request it by messaging the administrators.

By default, new registrations require admin approvals. You can change to not require approval by going to EasyBlog>Profile Types choose the Profile and under the Registration section, change the settings for the Registration Type option.

I hope this helps!
