Child Group Categories update/University Registration?

I saw a forum topic on this last year saying you might get this in the next edition. Any update on the possibility of this?

If not... could use some advice. I have 3 user types of my 5 that need the ability to choose what university they are attending. It has to be more then just me adding that custom field in each one (as each one would be separate and I need ONE unifying field) since on other components I need to filter results (i.e. Cobalt records) by what school they belong to.

Any ideas from anyone? Im trying to get it work much like behance does for filter of universities etc.

Hi Gene,

I'm not sure to understand your requirements. Do you mean that 3 of your 5 profile type need to be able to choose from a list of universities? Or do you want each profile type to be related to one specific university?

What is the unify field for?

I have 5 Profile types as you can see here.

Three of the profile types, Undergraduate, Graduate, and Professor I need them to select the University they attend. I realize I can create a custom field for each type in backend but essentially it's three different fields if i do that.

I need a unifying field like Joomla email (that field while in multiple places is the same field as it concerns the database).

That way I can use the University field in other components for filters, sorting etc.

Does that help?

Unless you know of a better way to accomplish this.

Another example you have artist biography in Easyblog that with a plugin unifies it is eassocial and easyblog. So when tis updated in one place it updates it in both components and its viewed in both components.

I need something like that for University when they select from a list.

Hi,

I'm not sure if this will work or if it is what you are looking for but maybe you can try to create a drop-down custom field with the name of the universities in one profile. Then create the same custom field in the other profile but make sure the Custom fields "unique key" is the same on all profiles.

Like Aikigi said, you can create a same custom field with same unique key so that it will be unify when it comes to filtering and searching. Hope these help.

THANKS! That should be what I need.

Next issue... auto complete. There are thousands of universities, so a dropdown is out of the questions. I don't see an autocomplete field in ES. Any ideas on that?

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

Unfortunately we do not have autocomplete custom field currently. Someone did actually request this to be implement a while ago and here is his voice page, http://stackideas.com/voices/easysocial/item/487 .
