Is it possible to be able to have Child Categories for Groups? As our Community deals with the Gaming Industry there are a lot of Genres that I'd like to be able to organize into Parent Categories and Child Categories. Or are there any plans on adding this or can I hack it?
hey fred,
he answered it a little bit later

As for item #2, unfortunately we are not supporting multi level categories yet but this is probably coming in later revisions once we get in the main stuffs in

I asked about this a little while back and Mark said group and event sub-categories would be included in a later revision. Not sure if he meant 1.3.x or later.

See Mark's second reply here: http://stackideas.com/forums/group-events-sub-categories,-custom-badges-and-jug-assignment-points-rules

Hey guys,

I am not really sure if we have the time for this in 1.3 but we'll see. Adding child / nested subcategories is tricky because whenever there is an unlimited level of nesting, we usually tend to end up using more resources in most of the SQL queries and it has to be done correctly to avoid such performance losses.

Hi Mark, I agree whenever a new feature is added it's most important to implement them the right way rather than rush a new feature and end up with more problems to iron out in the long run. I hope child categories can be included by the time ES 1.4 is released. I'm more concerned with giving groups ability to create and view their own events from the group page.
