Is there a way to change the Event Date Format? By default it is set to:

12th Dec, 2014

Would like to set it to US standard:

Dec. 12, 2014
You can change this in ES's backend > Events > Categories > Category-name > Custom Fields > Event Date/Time > Basic > Date format

Basically it's in the custom field settings of the basic tab for events.

Thanks for sharing Josh.

Additional information, you will have to locate the language strings of COM_EASYSOCIAL_DATE_* to change the format as well.

Ahhh, thanks for pointing that out Josh I sometimes get lost with ES settings.

Thanks Jason, would be nice to have a central setting for date format don't you think? I don't know if that's possible

I think I suggested this a while back. With such a setting you could then have the event time be set to "use global" which goes based on ES's default time setting that you configure. But if for some reason you wanted it different, the current options could remain without having any extra drop down menus.

I agree! Global Setting + option to change in the field (default to use Global setting) in case for some reason a different date format is needed. I guess this would make everybody happy

Hi,

We will most likely remove the settings in the field, and will only use the language string for site wide.

Because the language string is newly introduced, we are slowly porting over other date-related-output that is not using the language string to do so.

Hello, just bumping in to make sure that for now you actually suggest to review each category's cutom date field to set it to the required format?
That seems indeed overly complicated to me.
Also, it appears the different types of language strings already exist in ES:
COM_EASYSOCIAL_DATE_DM=jS M
COM_EASYSOCIAL_DATE_DMY=jS M, Y
COM_EASYSOCIAL_DATE_MY=M, Y
COM_EASYSOCIAL_DATE_Y=Y
COM_EASYSOCIAL_DATE_DMY12H=jS M, Y g:iA
COM_EASYSOCIAL_DATE_DMY24H=jS M, Y H:i
COM_EASYSOCIAL_DATE_12H=g:iA
COM_EASYSOCIAL_DATE_24H=H:i
Surely there must be a way to once and for all point to the desired strings?
Thanks.

Hi Jason, perhaps is it possible (in the meantime) to alter a file as to have all (new?) categories using the desired strings?
Thanks.

Hi,

Depending on which section are you referring to. Please provide a specific area to where/which date you would like to alter.

Hi,
Basically all date formats appearing in the basic tab of Events/category custom fields; as I can see it so far, start/end date and datetime
Stangely enough, for Group categories, the create date custom field does not have such a basic setup tab.
That being said, there are probalbly other possibilities I don't know about yet.
To add to this, in ES Event back-end, Events creation dates are formatted as YYYY-MM-dd even though the standard for ES fields is dd-MM-YYYY.
Hopefully, the tweak is not even more elaborated than the setup.
Thanks.

Hi,

Currently the field defined format only affects the field by itself. This means that the format defined in the field, is ONLY for the field. In an overall picture, the event date format obeys COM_EASYSOCIAL_DATE_* currently.

If you are looking to alter the display of event date format, then you will have to edit the language string of COM_EASYSOCIAL_DATE_DMY/COM_EASYSOCIAL_DATE_DMY_12H/COM_EASYSOCIAL_DATE_DMY_24H (depending on the settings of whether the event date is an all day event, and if the event date is 12h/24h format)

Hi,
Thanks for the explanations; the thing is I have no problem with the way language strings are currently defined but with the fact one has to setup each date custom field for each category individually; so my question was more about finding a way to default said fields settings to the strings I want (for instance: COM_EASYSOCIAL_DATE_DMY24H=jS M, Y H:i)

Hi,

The language string is actually applied across category (in terms of displaying the event date). You do not need to go to each category to configure each said fields.

Just modify the language string and it is applied sitewide.
