Chrome is known to have issues with Facebook Registration where it some times crashes. We actually can't identify what the issue is since this is coming from the browser. Other browsers handles this properly.
Regarding the optional field, because your Facebook Registration settings is set to "normal registration", hence both the field Username and Email field is mandatory.
