category filter on module?

Not sure if this is already possible or maybe you could suggest a workaround... here's the situation.

I have 2 modules on the home page. I will have 3 categories. News, Cats (for example), Dogs (For example) . I want one module to only show the latest post in the "news" category which is easy. But I want the 2nd module to show the latest posting from all other categories except "News". The reason is that if I have a module that shows latest news category and a module that shows the latest posts without specifying a category Both modules will display the same post creating a duplicate on the home page. And there doesn't seem to be a way to select multiple categories in the module when selecting which category to display.

Being able to specify specific categories in the module might be a nice future feature? lol

Hello Mark,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply. I don't think this is possible out of the box unless you create a separate menu item for each of your categories. This way, your other modules are associated to the menu and would only display on specific menu items.

Hello Mark,

Hm, you can actually already filter blog posts by category in the latest blogs module. Am I missing anything here?

Maybe Im not getting how to do it .. sorry. I tried but when selecting which category to display I can only choose one category. I'm prob. missing something.
Could you explain it to me?

Hello Mark,

Ah, sorry I think I misunderstood your inquiry earlier I thought you want the module to display different categories. Yeah, that's not possible currently to display all except specific categories

i am wanting to display several categories instead of just one. is there a work-around to make that possible?
