The forum layout no longer acts like a conventional forum. Why? Are you planning to fix this? For instance I have two main forums. In each forum I have subforums. When EasyDiscuss 4.0 was released, I could see the 2 main forums on one page. I had to drill down to see the subforum categories. Now I can only select one forum but I can see all the subcategories on one page.

I would like to see all forums with all subcategories on one page... like other forum components.

Is this possible with EasyDiscuss?
Hi Renejdm,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply as now is a weekend for us here

In EasyDiscuss 4.0, we introduced a new view called 'Forums'. In this forums view, the discussions posts will be grouped by categories. So if your EasyDiscuss consists of two parents categories, both categories will be displayed in this Forums view.

I've checked your current site (with EasyDiscuss 3.9.x installed), you will still able to achieve the same menu structure. Instead of using 'forums' view, you can use 'recent' view in your menu items if you do not wish to display all your categories in one single page

Let me know if I've mis-understand your question or if you require further clarifications regarding this new 'forums' view.

Hope this help and have a nice day!

This only works for me if the parent category is not a container i.e. it must contain a post. Is there a workaround please?

Hi Sam,

I do not really understand what you are trying to say. My problem is that I cannot see all of the main forums on a single page. This behaviour was introduced in your most recent update. So this seems like an oversight on your part.

Or did you change this behaviour for a special reason. If so, I would like to know about it.

Recap. I can only view one main category and it's subcategories in forum mode. This seems like an unnecessary limitation as this behaviour was only recently introduced into your latest update.

So is it a BUG? or by design?

Also, my main forum acts like a container for the sub-forums. You are not supposed to ask questions in the main forum, only the sub forums. Now I always see a message "There are no discussions posted under this category" for the main forum. This message should not exist because the main forums are containers and not for discussions.

See image.

Hi Rene,

I am sorry for the confusion. I think I got confused with your terms 'main forums'. If i understand correctly, you are referring to parent category which act as in container. Anyway, I tried to replicate your issue by creating two parent categories which are the containers and when Im viewing in 'forums' page, I do see these two categories. Please see: http://screen.stackideas.com/Discussions_-_Solo33_2016-06-14_12-05-29.png But i agree with you that the parent categories is not showing the sub-categories links in the 'forums' page. I've reported this to the dev team and we are currently working on a fix to address this issue.

Now I always see a message "There are no discussions posted under this category" for the main forum.

Strange, in my local instance, I cant replicate this. Can you send me your dev site that you've installed ED4 so that I can check on this issue again?

Hi Andrew Gould,

This only works for me if the parent category is not a container i.e. it must contain a post. Is there a workaround please?

Regarding your issue, can you create another thread and send us your Joomla site login credential so that we can check this for you?

Please advise.

Hi Sam,

Thanks; I have raised a ticket about this. I just thought that I would add my support to Rene because I see the same behaviour when a parent category is a container.

I also concur with Rene regarding the message "There are no discussions posted under this category" is displayed for a parent container category. A parent category cannot contain posts so this message is irrelevant and confusing.

Thanks Andrew, I believe you already started a new thread on our forum

if you have any other issue in the future, it would be best you can start a new thread so that it will be easier for us to manage your inquiry.
