I am still wishing that I could get more category based urls or menu based urls for my EasyBlog postings.

I want to show you something really interesting which is that I have a module that displays EasyBlog items and gives the items what I consider great urls. But, if I click on the actual item in EasyBlog the urls are not as nice. (yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder). And, I am hoping maybe with the new routing engine in Joomla that I might be able to get improved EasyBlog URLs even though it would probably break links all over my site that I would need to fix.

Here is a sample page I want you to see:

https://www.drcarney.com/shop/amazon-storefront/books/nutrition-diet

You will notice in the right hand column a link from a ZenTools2 module that just lists and links to EasyBlog items.

The link that says "The Engine 2 Seven-Day Rescue Diet" goes to the following URL:

https://www.drcarney.com/shop/amazon-storefront/books/nutrition-diet/entry/the-engine-2-seven-day-rescue-diet

I like that url because it is very description of the location on our site.

Interestingly enough, if you go back to the parent page at https://www.drcarney.com/shop/amazon-storefront/books/nutrition-diet and then click on the EasyBlog items (using the Grid or the frontpage view) you will be taken to a completely different url:

https://www.drcarney.com/blog/entry/the-engine-2-seven-day-rescue-diet

So, here are the two different urls side by side that are coming from the exact same page:

https://www.drcarney.com/shop/amazon-storefront/books/nutrition-diet/entry/the-engine-2-seven-day-rescue-diet

https://www.drcarney.com/blog/entry/the-engine-2-seven-day-rescue-diet

That seems like something that Google will not think is useful and will probably frown upon.

Also, I placed that particular item into two categories in EasyBlog but was expecting both links to only go to one url. I thought it always went just to the primary category. but, in this case you can get to the very same EasyBlog item from a different location and actually get a third and a fourth url. To see this go to the following page:

https://www.drcarney.com/shop/amazon-storefront/books/cookbooks

There you will see two urls generated, one from the right hand sidebar as follows:

https://www.drcarney.com/shop/amazon-storefront/books/cookbooks/entry/the-engine-2-seven-day-rescue-diet

and the other from the EasyBlog category page as follows:

https://www.drcarney.com/blog/entry/the-engine-2-seven-day-rescue-diet

Do you have any ideas of settings that I may be missing now which would allow me to reduce the number of URLs?

So, in recap, four urls to the same item:

https://www.drcarney.com/shop/amazon-storefront/books/nutrition-diet/entry/the-engine-2-seven-day-rescue-diet

https://www.drcarney.com/blog/entry/the-engine-2-seven-day-rescue-diet

https://www.drcarney.com/shop/amazon-storefront/books/cookbooks/entry/the-engine-2-seven-day-rescue-diet

https://www.drcarney.com/blog/entry/the-engine-2-seven-day-rescue-diet

Thanks for giving this some thought.

Hi there,

Currently, you have too many menu items(same menu items) and all those linked with each other. And dont forget also on each your modules, they are all got settings and connected to each one of your menu items

Maybe you can create a staging site first then we can do some 'try and error' on that staging in order to beautify them. I believed we need to remove all your current menu item and re-structures them again by creating a more proper menu items.

Please advice.

I would be very happy to set up a staging server for this. I will try to do that today. I will let you know as soon as the staging area is ready.

Also, I am tempted to maybe try using one of your templates but I am needing to have the Search field appear at the top of every page. so, I will need to find one that does that.

The staging site will be set up a bit later today and I will put in update information here.

My site has a huge number of categories and menu items but I was not aware of any duplicates except for where I place some EasyBlog items into more than one category. My thought was that the urls would only display based on the primary category.

Is there a limitation in Joomla for the number of categories that are allowed? Or, for that matter is there an EasyBlog limitation?

Thanks, Sean

I did not set up the staging server yet. Actually I set it up but the guys from JoomlArt are doing some troubleshooting for my JoomlaBamboo template and a module there tonight so I figured I would let that get cleared up first and then make the staging site for us to work on.

I have discovered that the problem I am reporting here was not caused by my menus. It is actually caused the the Grid and Magazine layouts of EasyBlog. I am going to open a new ticket about this with the ability for you to look at two different copies of the same web site. I will try to include access for the two web sites to you there.

I get good urls if I use EasyBlog » (Categories) All Categories » (Categories) Single Category
For example: https://www.drcarney.com/help/information/getting-started/entry/what-does-a-plant-based-dinner-plate-look-like

I get bad urls if I use EasyBlog » (Posts) Grid Layout » (Posts) Grid Layout
For example: http://www.dev1.carneycorner.com/blog/entry/what-does-a-plant-based-dinner-plate-look-like

The difference is that the good URL follows my menu structure. The bad URL does not.

They only way I can get good URLs using the Grid Layout is if I am linking to a category which also has a menu item created for every single post in that category.

That is not a workable solution though.

Sean

PS. You do not need to reply here but this ticket is a good reference since it is the same problem I originally was trying to report but I did not know what the cause of the problem was.
