This started when I tried to add a blog entry. (We've been rebuilding this website in j3.x and it has been a nightmare.) We were recently forced to upgrade from j3.1.5 to j3.2.2 (not a good upgrade) due to problems with another extension.

In the blog entry layout, a bunch of the settings on the right (category, published, dates, etc.) are all scrunched up. I can't set the category, so the new post is stuck in Uncategorized. I figured the problem probably had to do with the changes to TinyMCE that came with j3.2.2 (what a waste of time those changes are.....), and decided that the Easyblog probably needed an upgrade to address the j3.2.2 problems. (Ran into a similar situation with Roksprocket, except they didn't fix all the issues. grrrr!)

So, I backed up my com_easyblog directories (component & administrator) and then started the update. The updater says it wants my API key but the API key is already in the box and saved. Just in case I had the API key from my previous subscription, I logged into my account and copied the API key again. I still get the error message.

Bottom line, I need to be able to update the extension and, if this doesn't fix the blog entry layout problem, I need some help with that too. (Sorry to grumble so much about j3.2.2, TinyMCE and Rocket - it has not been a good month.)

Thanks!!
Deb
Hello Debra,

Haha. Its ok. By the way, you doesn't have to uninstalled previous Easyblog 3.8.x . You can install it using directory as Alex mentions above. You can refer it here: http://stackideas.com/docs/easyblog/installation/installing-from-directory.

I am sorry for the inconveniences caused. Upgrading from EasyBlog 3.8.x or older to 3.9.x requires a full uninstall / installation. The reason is because there are some core files which were modified in this release and running the updater would actually break things.

Rest assured that your data would not get erased when you perform an uninstall / installation. Theme files and other core files would however get erased, so if you have made any modifications, it's best to make a backup of the modifications first.

Hope this will help.
Thanks.

hey debra,
this api message is unfortunately misleading, the real reason why the updater failed is that you're on 3.8.x and the latest version is 3.9.x
in general the internal updater only works as long as you're on the same branch number. so if you'd be on an older 3.9 version you could now update automatically to the latest 3.9. the same will happen again when you're on 3.9 and the official stable is labeled 4.x

for now the only way to upgrade is to do this manually - so you'd have to download the latest easyblog package from your dashboard and then install it via the joomla extension manager.

hope that helps

Thank you Alex and Mohdy! I really appreciate your quick replies. I checked the documentation and it looks like I can install 3.9.x over 3.8x? Or should I do the housekeeping and uninstall 3.8.x first?

I'm hoping that the upgrade will take care of the problem with the blog entry layout .

Downloading files now.....

Back soon, Deb

I've successfully upgraded the Easyblog installation to 3.9.x and copied back the formatting adjustments I had made in the previous version. So the public view of the blog looks good.

Unfortunately, the blog entry form is still the same big problem. The right side of the form appears to be cut off. I've attached a screenshot of the problem. I've looked around for a setting to fix the problem and can't find anything. Suggestions on how to fix this will be soooo appreciated.

Thank you for your help,
Debra

Everything is working fine. I added another blog posting, everything is in the correct categories. The right side of the entry form appears and operates as it should.

Thank you so much for your help and also for Alex's assistance. This was a VERY smooth fix!!

With my best wishes,
Debra
