Hi.

I get an error when I try to install danish language in Joomla 4. See attachment.
Hello Anders,

There is some known issue with Joomla 4 and EasyBlog 5.4.x and we have addressed most of the problems on EasyBlog 6 which is currently still in beta. We are expecting to release the stable version pretty soon.

Is your site currently in development? Perhaps you could consider starting it with EasyBlog 6?

Hey Stefan,

It seems like you are right, this issue still persists in Easyblog beta 2 + Joomla 4.

Can you try to download my attached file then replace this file into this file location on your site and see how it goes?

The language download section is only available for your licensed domain, if this error shows up on your licensed domain, can you start your new thread on our forum and provide us with your site backend and FTP access so we can investigate this issue on your site.

Ok, thats an explanation since i am working on a testinstallation. BTW how do i manage my domains? I am not able to delete an outdated entry to add the testdomain. I thought the domainlist is just to entitle support for the listed domains not to limit the funcionality.
I have a licence for EasyBlog Developer and cant find whats included.

Thank you. I guess that means i cant manage my domains myself? Please delete raumzumreden.at, but i dont think that it is very conveniant to bother support every time i want to change the domains. Did i get this right, i am allowed to install EasyBlog as often as i like but to install german languange it has to be in the list of managed domains, and i allways have to contact support to delete or add a domain?
I also work on my sites on temorary domains before i publish them, that would also be a problem in that case.
Is this really a good idea?

Hello Stefan,

I do not seem to be able to locate any licenses associated with the domain raumzumreden.at. Are you checking on a different account?

Hello Mark,

I would like to note my support for one point made by Stefan. Those of us that test locally before deployment need a method for adding a local domain--without support--to our domain list. This has become particularly urgent with the advent of Joomla 4.

Ah, okay I see the problem now. It looks like this thread was created by someone else. I have removed that domain from your license now.

You can actually install it on a localhost domain or a subdomain from your live domain. Is that not working for you?

Thank you. Also for the "workaround" I can use for my development. But did i get this right, that for localization, the domain i installed EasyBlog has to be on the list of managed domains?

Mark,

Actually, it isn't working for me. Of course it goes without saying that my current issue may be entirely my fault, but the package install seems to stall in the initialization phases; particularly the database; like it is looking for a license that it cannot find on the local domain.

Cheers, Ron

Hm, this is more likely an issue with the hosting environment rather than the installer services. You can start a new ticket on our helpdesk to get our team to look into this issue as long as your domain is supported.

Could you start a new ticket and provide us with the access to test7.gros.at so that we can check on this?

I will, but could you clarify the issue with the installation of differnet languages? on your site you say that the developer edition i have bought, provides "Unlimited installations", but if i cant change the languages for the domains that are not "managed" this is pretty useless for me, sind i live in a german speaking county and have to chenge the language of every installation. In other words if thats true "we have to talk"

Hello Stefan,

Unlimited installations simply means we do not restrict your installation of the extension. This is applicable to both the Pro and Developer contracts.

However it looks like you are on the developer contract and developer there is actually no limit to the domains. In other words, as long as you are on the developer support contract, there is actually no domain restrictions when you are trying to install languages or using the update services.

OK thank you for the claryfication. I think the formulation is a bit confusing, isnt it? So the 5 managed domains are...what?
If it works out for me i dont care but i think you and your management should think this over
(an installation without the possiblity to localaze it...is...you know, and thats not the same as i dont get no support for that domain)

I wil open another ticket as you recommended for the language installtion.

Hello Stefan,

The 5 domains in your license is for support services (Developer contracts). We cannot be providing support for "unlimited" domains. We can only provide support services for up to 5 domains only.

Thats totally ok and i understand that! (Maybe a upgradepack for money would be a nice idea). But as i stated language installation only for supported domains (as i understodd it) is a gamestopper.

If you are on a standard plan (non developer contract), it is only restricted to the supported domain only. After all, these requests takes up bandwidth and cpu processes on our servers.

Hmm strange if this is a cpu and bandwidth issue for you to download an extra ES 800 kb file per language(s) occasionally but this is really an annoying issue for frustrating customers that have to copycat from one domain language download and then upload to a test environment wherever that is.

Mark and team pls think this over.

All the best.

Hello ssnobben,

Thanks for your input on this. Back in the days we have allowed such usage without restrictions but what eventually happened was people started to abuse this service. It isn't just about the bandwidth / cpu usage but it affects the business altogether.

Previously, a single user would just purchase a license and share it with hundreds, if not thousands of customers and we eventually lose our revenue from these services that we offer.

We are in an open source eco-system. There is nothing that prevents others from using an unlicensed copy of our software. As a matter of fact, there is no such thing as unlicensed copy. This is what free software foundation is built upon.

The only reason that everyone is able to get updates from us is because we are able to generate some revenues from our subscriptions. Without these subscriptions, none of the team members would be around to provide consistent updates for the software which we have created.

This is also why developer contracts are given the extra flexibility because they are also chipping in to help us maintain our services and support.

Hope you understand where we are coming from.

Mark, I totally understand that you and your company want to earn a fair share of money with your work. And you are right that the decribed practice is not fair and you have to find a way to avoid that. But have a look at your pricing plans. The "Pro-edition" comes with "unlimited installations". If i would buy that package and cannot get a second installation to run in german i would be pretty upset. I like your product and your support thats why i bought the developer edition to support you, even if i thought the pro version would be enough, since usually i dont need supprt.
In my point of view "unlimited installations" provide full functionallity except support. You say, and i agree, that unlimited installations are not a good idea on the other hand your promotion is using that. So isupport the idea to think it over to find a suitable solution for you and the customers.

I am in the communication business and i am very impressed by the way you and also mark handle feedback. I have a second ticket at another company and they provide workarounds for their bugs by providing custom CSS instead of fixing the bugs and they give customers the feeling that they are not really interested in improving their products and services. You took the time to explain why things as they are and react positively to suggestions. Thank you and Mark for that.
