Hi Support

I can not remove text that I insert at bottom of third video by mistake.
I was trying to move my text blocks around and did some happy dragging and things got duplicated in the process!

http://finalbug.net/blog/entry/420-tracks-roles-in-modern-nles-1-of-3

please advise

Paul

This is the text I am trying to remove:

just about every body knows that the Eskimo have dozens of words for snow. So how do you convey something that is power for course in one language i.e. Inuit to some one in another language such as english where we have a couple of words for snow. Recently I had to deliver a short film for broadcast which I had edited in FCPX. Having done work like this before in traditional NLEs I decided to read up on the latest tricks in the world of MXF workflow and in particular delivery for TV. It did not take long before I hit the sticky subject of tracks. Because love it or hate it FCPX has a thing called a magnetic timeline. Not a track in sight. But wait there are things called roles.

If you know nothing about roles in FCPX then maybe you should role up your sleeves and get to gripes with them once and for all. They are not perfect but it is pretty apparent that their is a logic behind them that after some minor tweaks will make them extremely powerful and not just for smaller projects. As of now they can still be very useful for larger projects but require some additional tools to help you lift there full potential.

Rather than writing extensively as I tend to do I thought that I would look at constructing a very simple edit in Da Vinci Resolve versus Final Cut Pro X and whilst I was at it I thought that I would throw Legacy Final Cut Pro into the mix. For the sake of this shoot out I am taking as an example a program that consists of two building blocks a film except and a review of the film excerpt. For the purpose of demonstration lets assume that we need to have the audio for the film excerpt on one channel and the audio from the film review on another channel.

The caveat in this workflow as of now is that roles are not quite as easy to twist and turn as they should be in FCPX. Do not get me wrong they are amazing but a little like this text with out the Ts crossed and the Is dotted! In short they break down now in the FCPX browser at the latest when I want to apply different roles to different audio tracks in multiple clips in the FCPX Browser.
Paul,

I would suggest that you delete the block, and re-insert a new text block again. You can use the columns block to contain these blocks or drop the video block in an existing text block.

I would strongly suggest that you just copy the contents and paste it again on another text block. It would be easier that way.

I already have it on another text block.
That is not the problem.
I now have it doubled.

i.e. in the (third) video box
and in the following text box

Sure I could delete the text (second version of same text) from the following text box...
But I run into trouble at the latest when I want to edit the text in the (third) video box
eg formatting/spelling mistake/update!

Just drag the entire third block into the trash on the right and start a new block again

Hi Mark

The standard video block is different.
Can I add a block that is the same as the other 2 that were in the standard 3 video template.

thanks

Paul
