Can I programmatically add a known user to a known group?

I couldn't find this in the developer documentation...

Is there a way with PHP or JQuery / Javascript that I can make a known User ID a member of a known Group ID?

You will need to refer to the codes under /components/com_easysocial/controllers/groups.php and take a look at the method @join
