This is a continuation of a discussion started here...
http://stackideas.com/forums/how-to-control-visibility-of-group-discussions-on-public-everyone-newsfeed

We've got a site for military members and veterans called guardiansgrid.com .

Some of our members like to share somewhat 'salty' stories. Other members would rather not see these. We want to accommodate both, so we've created a Closed group called 'Off the Grid'.

Please confirm that this will accomplish our goal of keeping 'Off the Grid" content viewable by group members only and off Dashboard page of those who are not members of the Off the Grid group.

Our problem is that we don't really want to do a moderator approval for every user who wants to join the Off the Grid group. It slows the user's access to content they want to see. It makes unnecessary work for our moderators as we want access to this group to be the user's choice.

Is this possible in the current version or do we need a different group type in a future release ?

Ideally, I'm wondering if a more flexible setup for groups settings might be better. Instead of having 3 group types, perhaps we have control over the various aspects of each group.

Group Name visible to whom ? Public, Registered, Invitees...

New Group Member Approval ? Not Required, Moderators...

Group Content visible to whom ? Public, Registered, Invitees, Members...

Group Posting by whom ? Registered, Members, Specific Profile Types, Specific Members...

Thanks,

Dave
Hi Dave,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it weekends for all of us here.

Thank you for your kind suggestion. Currently it is not possible to achieve this out of the box in EasySocial but we will try to make this happen in the future release of EasySocial. In the meantime you can post this idea inside our voices page, http://stackideas.com/voices so that our developers are able to compile all the ideas and see if they can make this happen in the future.

Thank you for your kind understanding.

Hi Dave,

No worries, Closed and Private group's posts will not appear on non-member's feed. As for others, it is as Ezrul said, it is not possible at the moment

But your idea is great! We might be able to implement an ACL for the groups in the future. Please share your idea here with everyone! EasySocial Voices
