This fails if activating user from the backend. It seems to work if activating by the admin mail link. But I would think this should work in either case.

In Settings > Users > Profile Type > "PROIFLE_TYPE" > Groups

I see you can set groups to which members of this profile type will be assigned. However, if you also have this profile type require admin activation, then the user will not get added to the group. I have tested this and the only way the user is added is if admin activation is removed. This seems to be a bug.

It is the default and correct behavior for it. Because the user is not been approved and does not have the access to the site yet so that is why the user will not auto join to the group until the admin approves the user.

Do you mean that if you try to approve the user from the user pending list in the backend, the user will not auto join the group? If yes, It seems that I can't replicate it on my local site when I approved the user from the user pending list in the backend.

Can you provide us with your site access and FTP access so that we can have a better check of it?
