I started installing EB5 (site already had v3 installed) and left it installing (Step 1) and went off to do something else. When I came back it was waiting to install the package (I chose install from directory) so I clicked to start. Because it had been sitting idle for a while, Joomla logged me out. I logged back in and the backend was completely white.

I went into FTP and deleted the EasyBlog folders in /administrator/components and /components and it reappeared. I then just installed it again. Maybe there's nothing you can do because of how it installs, but I thought I'd bring it to your attention. A reinstall fixed it.
Hey Ian,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as we are currently having a Joomla conference here in Malaysia and most of the team are involved in the preparation.

May i know which package installer you download?

It was the full product - v 5.0.21. I fixed it as I said, but was strange nonetheless. I finally tried out the EB composer yesterday. Wow - super! So much easier for clients to use.
