Looks like the Protostar template which has the line on top. It should disappear if you select another template in Joomla. I suggest going for a common Joomla forum since these things are Joomla basics and not component related. These things are fast and not hard to learn, give it a try.

Sabih is right. This is indeed coming from the Protostar template(http://take.ms/fIWOn). If you do not want to use another template, you can always use custom css rules to override it.

Does changing the joomla theme affect easysocial's look?

Yes changing Joomla's template does affect the look and feel of your site.
You can always change it around to test it out. If your site is already live, you can always do your testing in a clone/staging site.
We have a few Joomla templates here that you can take a look at and see the differences between them.

EasySocial themes are different from Joomla templates in a sense that EasySocial themes affect the layout of EasySocial only, whereas Joomla templates affect the layout of the entire site.
