Blog items - Latest item not showing/not showing well in Safari and Chrome

Most recent blog item (the larger image). In Chrome the bottom part of the image is darkened (why?) and the heading and initial text is printed across the image. In Safari nothing shows at all in this space. Not good in either case. Please explain who these errors can be corrected.

Not really sure what you meant here actually Can you provide us with more details so that we can understand them better.
