How do I assign a blogger to the blog home page so that I can display profile information in the header? Or is there an easier way?

Correct me if I'm wrong, did you mean you want to set the blogger page as the menu item? If so, you might want to create new menu item and select Single Blogger Layout as you can see it here: http://screencast.com/t/DURJdZmARWmy . Hope this helps.
