Because the Advanced Search EasySocial system is so confusing?

Usability is not something that is taken into consideration in this current system

Not all users of my sites are geeks.

You could create an easier to use "search", such as the example below

http://badoo.com/search/

https://www.airbnb.com
Hello Cristiano,

I am not too sure how simple you want this to be but the idea of an advanced search is to allow users to pick fields that they want to search from. We cannot predict what fields are suitable for your site

Mark,

I'm riding three different sites Easysocial (A Dating Site, A Socia Network online courses, A social network for travel)
The advanced search easysocial is not appropriate for any of the three sites.

I posted two examples, you accessed ?
For example, check out the advanced search Badoo is quite simple and easy to understand and use.

Hello Cristiano,

Sorry but I have to disagree here. The whole idea of an advanced search is to allow users to search every field they could possibly search and if the advanced search is only fixed to specific fields like http://badoo.com/search/ , I don't think this is even called Advanced Searching

I also think you need to understand that EasySocial is developed for the masses, not only for dating sites but other social sites like private intranet, offices, dating sites, travel sites, blogging sites, local communities, fan clubs etc. We cannot just build the advanced search so that it works like how a dating site would work

Other users are going to come to us and post the same things like you posted here What we did is to make a decision to allow flexibility of searching which allows you to choose every single field your users are using

What I have in mind in the future version of EasySocial is that we create a new module that behaves like the sidebar on http://badoo.com/search/ . After all, this is just riding on the same search engine (just a different representation on the display part)

I agree that an advanced search should include all items, but the Easysocial Advanced search is confusing for any use:

A simple example:

Search by relationship status:

Badoo:

EaysSocial:

What is the simplest?

ps.: I'm not wanting a system for my dating site, the search engine of my dating site is a custom addon, I'm doing at Odesk.

Hi Cristiano,

First of all, thanks for your input on how the advanced search should work. The relationship fields search is now fixed so that instead of entering the value, user now able to select the value from a list.

As for your 2nd example, those are very specified search form in my opinion. What EasySocial advanced search provide you is a tool for you to search your users based on the profile custom fields. Anyway, we will see how we can improve the usability on EasySocial advanced search.

Thanks again for your feedback and your suggestion

Hello Sam,

The second item can easily be solved this way below:

Load in simple search:
Enable if you would like to display this field in the simple search form.

Load in advanced search:
Enable if you would like to display this field in the advanced search form.

Load in public profile
Enable if you would like to display this field in public profiles.

You could create something on the backend to choose from Dropdown, Checkboxes or Radio Buttons

I'm actually extremely happy with Stackideas Team, you actually listen to the opinions of your customers

Thanks !

Hey Sam, you might find this post interesting: http://stackideas.com/forums/advanced-search-pre-defined-search-options#reply-126366

I'm with Cristiano that we need to make the form process easier than it is now. On my site for example I want to be able to allow users to find other users within a specific range (one than the user specifies) of experience on certain rock climbs. Because the mountaineering world can be a bit technical, finding the right people is very important. Pre-made forms can be completely up to the admins discretion (whether or not to use them) and will make it easier for the user assuming the admin puts in the right custom fields.

Here is a fine example of a advanced search form that has the right criteria for the user to search by. It does the job right, is obvious to the user how to use it, does not require the user to take up more space by saving a filter (although I do think that feature has it's place), and feels simple.
